This week one of our fashion bloggers is set loose on the streets of New York City to discover and report the latest trends in Fall fashion street wear. What is the common girl on the street wearing to business, lunch, and evening? And how do New Yorkers incorporate fashion into their busy, non stop lifestyles? Let’s discover what’s trending and find out ways you can implement into your Seasonal wardrobe and your lifestyle needs this year.

In preparation for the trip, I ended up packing only one bomber leather jacket. However, I should have followed the chic coat option all of New York is wearing this Season. In the city that never sleeps, women know that an all purpose, durable coat is the way to go for Fall. Lighter than fur or wool, the camel trench coat is one of this Season’s favorite jacket options, suitable paired over your work suit and later with a chic midi dress and over the knee suede boots.

Be FURocious

Being from L.A., I had wondered if “fur” is a taboo touchy clothing piece for Fall so ended up leaving my faux fur vest and real fur jacket at home. That’s not the case here in NYC. Cozy fur vests and coats are all the rage paired over anything from business suits to a day out in Central Park, faux of course for the protection of animals.

And Don’t Forget The Brights

You hear the myth that all New Yorkers only wear black and dark colors, so as to not stand out too much as a tourist, I opted to pack and wear neutral colors only. Boy was I wrong. New York women know how to stand in color, but with a more sophisticated approach. They pair one brightly lit statement piece and accessorize with solid colors and minimal jewelry. Try your black slacks with a bright outer piece to stand out like an “Oh So Chic” New Yorker.

Throw out the “no white” after Labor Day rule, and make your own rules like the New York women do. I tend to always push my white and ivory clothes to the back of the closet for Fall and Winter, but the New York women know that rules were made to be broken. They steer clear of silk and chiffon pieces, in favor of heavier fabrics like wool. I am actually on the look out for a white leather jacket for Fall here in the Fashion District.

Seen outside Carnegie Hall, I liked how she dressed up for the night in a tailored dress and crisp heels for a busy night out on the town.

I’ve always been a bit leery of wearing a barely there silk slip dress during the Fall. But New Yorkers are pairing the slinky silhouette this Season with hardier fare, from tees underneath, to moto jackets, to long trenches. Combine with your favorite ankle boots for downtown shopping style and switch to strappy heels as you head to a Broadway show. Check out this flowy one I found at Bloomingdale’s in the heart of the city.
Need a little romance in your afternoon? Try a glitter knit slip dress paired with a chunky oversized cardigan for a chic and comfortable New York errand running girl. No time for a trip home? Pull slinky heels from your tote and meet friends at Hudson Clearwater hidden restaurant.
Check out the Brooklyn Museum  in a sophisticated black & white slip dress and leather jacket then dine at Saul for a NY evening to remember.

And speaking of ankle boots, they are my “go to” shoes roaming the streets of NYC. As I expected, the streets are covered with every single boot style imaginable, from combat, to suede, to rocker style, to patent leather. My ankle boots were perfect to pair with my leggings all day and with my jumpsuit at night for the ballet. If you only get one shoe this Fall, get the versatile ankle boot.

What a great styling option, suitable for women from young to old. Skinnies are easy to pack and slim the leg on everyone. I brought a variety of these adaptable pants to switch out with different shirt options. How does New York style their skinnies? With an oversized chunky sweater and ankle boots or heels for a night on the town. I just had to head to Macy’s on 34th to grab me a pair of NYC’s favorite.
The vest and skinny work easily for the office or a chill fall NY day. Pair your black lace skinnies with a long sleeve knit top and oversized vest for office days or shimmy into your favorite jeans and satin top and stroll Manhattan for a totally you afternoon.

Since I only took 1 carryon, I had to think about layers while in NYC. How do they keep so warm, especially on brisk windy Fall days? I spotted jeans paired with a plaid long sleeveinfinity scarf, and a chic wool blazer; an A line skirt with long sleeve sweater tucked in; and I myself wore leggings, tight sweater, and warm vest that kept me comfy all night long.

On the go? Shimmy into a pair of leggings, pullover an oversized sweater and slip into to some concrete loving kicks for a busy New York Minute.

No matter how you choose to layer, the ONE item all New Yorkers never go without is a long warm scarf. From Central Park to Broadway to Greenwich, these girls know how to style a scarf. Layer a long draping sweater over a knit top and infinity scarf with your favorite jeans tucked into some serious leather combat boots for a NY City walk about.
So whether you’re in The City to see the sites, taste to food, listen to the music or everything in between. Be sure to dress like a local, but always remember to
Be YOU, Be Fashionable, and ALWAYS Be Feminine.

The Olympic 2016 Games are upon us and it’s time to get to know the US athletes and be inspired by their dedication, enthusiasm, and patriotism. And why not take a few tips from our top athletes at the same time on how they maintain body and mental health, strength, and endurance.

2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships - Day 4

Expected to bring home the gold, Simone Biles is set to dominate the women’s gymnastic competition this year. Raised by her grandparents, she’s always had a natural “spunk” and athletic ability, and now she’s ready to show the world her amazing talent. Not only must athletes stay mentally strong to handle the pressure, they must also maintain a balanced diet and exercise plan to allow their muscles full potential. At only 4’9″ and 105lbs, how does she maintain a strong, trim physique? On training as well as off season, she likes to stay disciplined with her diet with no greasy, salty, sugary or all-around heavy meals. She says,“Pre-workout I love drinking Core Power; it’s a recovery drink. And then a banana and peanut butter because bananas have potassium, which helps with muscle cramps. And then afterwards, I like having a good fish, like salmon, and rice and carrots.”

Check out our favorite healthy recipe that’ll keep you in tip top shape just like Simone:

Baked Grouper with Chunky Tomato Sauce

What you’ll need:
3 1/2 cups chopped seeded tomato (about 4 medium)
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 teaspoon capers
1 teaspoon bottled minced garlic
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons olive oil
4 (6-ounce) grouper fillets

(1) Preheat oven to 425°.
(2) Combine first 10 ingredients in a medium bowl.
(3) Heat oil in a large heavy skillet over high heat. Place fish, skin sides up, in pan; cook 2 minutes.
(4) Turn fish over; top with tomato mixture. Bring to a boil. Place pan in oven; bake at 425° for 8 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork.

No one knows dedication more than this year’s women’s cycling team. Comprised of 4 unique individuals, each of the US women is strong enough in their own right to medal. One to watch is 43-year-old Kristin Armstrong, already a 2 time Olympic medalist and favored to place at the Games. When asked why she would want to come back for her fourth Olympics after retiring she states, “Simply because I can.” But how does she balance work, career, and family? By maintaining an exercise regime, eating healthy, enjoying nature, and scheduling in quality time with her son and husband. You really CAN do it all; it’s just a matter of planning and maintaining a positive attitude. When you feel life start to bog you down, take our handy tips for relieving stress and regaining balance:

(1) Yoga: It combines the practices of several other stress management techniques such as breathing, meditation, imagery and movement, giving you a lot of benefit for the amount of time and energy required. Check your local listing for a Yoga studio near you.
(2) Breathing: Deep breathing is an easy stress reliever that has numerous benefits for the body, including relaxing muscles and quieting the mind. Breathing exercises are especially helpful because you can do them anywhere, and they work quickly so you can de-stress in a flash.
(3) Music: When dealing with stress, the right music can actually lower your blood pressure, relax your body and calm your mind.

One to watch this week is Kerri Walsh Jennings on the US Beach Volleyball Team. Gold medalist in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, she seeks to regain her title and beat out the host country’s record 11 medal Olympic Beach Volleyball win. We’ll be rooting her on, but how does she keep those incredible abs and picture perfect tan? Says Kerri, “I do Pilates three times a week—twice in the studio and once on the beach, I lift weights twice a week, I do physical therapy, and I do brain training and meet with my sports psychiatrist, so I’m really taken care of from head to toe. I eat a lot of oatmeal and drink a lot of shakes—anything I can put in a cup and take with me!” On maintaining a picture perfect tan: “I’m a little bigger than normal and really pale! When you have a tan, everything seems a little tighter, so I’m a big fan of organic spray tans, like Chocolate Sun.” Check out our Facebook for a perfect DIY Tanning lotion you can use today to get Kerri’s sun kissed look.

Mix swimming, basketball, and soccer, toss in some wrestling for good measure, and you have a pretty good description of the exciting, fast-paced sport of water polo. The U.S. women’s water polo team is ranked No. 1 in the world and is considered the favorite to bring home the gold medal at the Rio Olympics. To watch water polo is to see a frenzy of churn and motion.

That’s what you see on the surface. What you don’t see are the players’ legs, circling constantly underwater. The players aren’t allowed to touch the bottom of the pool. They’re treading water the whole time, each leg circling in an opposite direction. It’s a motion that has an excellent name: eggbeater.

Just how do these women stay in shape to maintain that type of stamina? Take our three step exercise regime to stay “Olympic” ready:

(1) Jumping Jacks: Simple yet to the point, this exercise builds strength and stamina. Hold 3-5lb weights for extra muscle tone. Do 3 sets of 20 reps and build from there.
(2) Planks: Builds core strength and abdomen muscle tone. Descend onto elbows and hold body in a “plank” position for 1 minute, maintaining straight back and elongating neckline. Turn sideways onto right elbow, tucking left leg under right for a sideways “plank” extending left arm up, holding for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side. Repeat entire set 3x.
(3) Resistance Band: You will need an exercise resistance band. Secure band behind you by tying to a door or bar. Position body away from the band. Grab the band from behind and pull extending your arm as far in front of you as you can, maintaining a 90 degree angle with the elbow.
NOTE: Check out our Posh at Play Facebook Page for more exercises you can do.

Defeating New Zealand 2-0 in its debut at the Rio Games on Wednesday, the US Women’s soccer team is already off to a solid start in its attempt to win a fourth straight Olympic gold medal. Up against the host country team favored to win, the US women will have an uphill battle to win but are confident based on camaraderie and team spirit. Get in the “game” and try a little one-on-one with a friend or family. Soccer is a great way to build stamina and coordination with the fast foot work and cardio, and you’ll have so much fun you will forget you are exercising.

Veterans mixed with novices make up this year’s US Women’s Swimming Team. Ones to watch are Missy Franklin who scored 4 golds in 2012’s London Olympics and Katie Ledecky, who might just be the best swimmer in this year’s Rio Olympics. Though these athletes appear poised, calm, and confident, female swimmers talk about the pressures of basically being half naked your entire life and not fitting in with your peers at an early age.

Said five-time Olympic medalist Missy Franklin: “There’s so much that’s coming at you from so many different angles. You’re impressed upon really, really easily. When I was 13, I had size 13 feet. I was very different, and it made me stand out. It makes you feel a little uncomfortable when you’re so different from your peers — and from what you’re seeing.”

But these athletes used their differences in a positive way- something we can all learn from. That’s why we here at Posh at Play are always encouraging you to be YOU and embrace who you are from within, while wearing the fashion that expresses your individuality.

Be inspired by the bright colors of the Swimmer’s leggings with our top choices:
“Taylor” Bright Blue Patterned Leggings
“Fire” Red Printed Jersey Leggings
“Royal” Purple Patterned Leggings

And finally, how can YOU support our Olympic Team and feel a part of The Games? Why not show your Patriotic pride and wear red, white, and blue. While the athletes march in the Opening Ceremonies Friday evening donning custom made Ralph Lauren gear, shop your own “USA” wear here:
Citizen’s of Humanity’s “Thompson” Skinny Jean
“Manic” White Cheeky Shorts

No matter which sport or which athlete is your favorite, show your patriotic pride for the good old USA by watching this year’s 2016 Rio Olympics. Cheer on your favorites and be inspired by our athletes’ dedication and passion.

And remember our mantra here at Posh at Play:
Be YOU, be fashionable, and always be feminine.

It’s that time of year when being near the water is the best way to stay cool against summer’s heat wave. Whether lounging at the pool or chilling at the beach, soak up summer’s rays the healthy way and nourish your spirit as well. Take a look at our favorite tips to rule the beach and beyond.

Stay cool and chic in a simple yet sassy cool Cabana tunic this Summer. Easy to throw over your favorite swimsuit, the open sleeves and loose fit will keep you cool and dry against the Seasonal sun. As twilight approaches, the tunic can also double as a dress perfect for cocktail hour or evening dinner.

Our favorite Cabana Tunic options:
“Cabana Sanctuary” Fuchsia Tribal Print Tunic
“Mayan” Navy Beaded Tunic
“Sweet Sensation” Black Cotton Tunic

Cute as a shorts set and doubling as a swimsuit cover up, the romper is our second favorite “must have” Summer outfit. Look for crisp cotton fabrics and off the shoulder silhouettes to stay cool against the hot Summer sun.

Our favorite Summer Rompers to try:
“Darling” Black Off the Shoulder Romper
“Iara” Handkerchief Printed Romper

Our third favorite cool cover up is a cool lace tunic dress. Whether maxi or mini, the cotton fabric provides a light coverage against the Summer rays while keeping you fashionable at the same time.

With numerous sunscreen products to choose from, how do you know which ones work best? Well, it ultimately comes down to personal choice, but we here at Posh at Play always believe all natural is the way to go. Our favorite “Summer Skincare Secret” is applying a layer of extra virgin coconut oil underneath your favorite sunscreen before soaking up the sun’s rays. The fatty acids in the oil provide a UV barrier without those harsh chemicals and it is so nurturing to the skin. Afterwards, replenish with the “Save Your Skin” hydrating mist, made with all natural products and not tested on any animals.

Nothing says “Summer” like soft, all natural wavy hair. Forgo harsh hair products and heating elements this Season, in favor of letting your hair go. We like this easy DIY Sea Salt Spray from The Huffington Post to achieve the perfect beachy waves.

You’ll need:
A plastic spray bottle
1 tablespoon of sea salt
1 tablespoon of melted unrefined/organic coconut oil
1 tablespoon of hair gel or leave-in hair conditioner
1 cup of warm water

Note: You can also add a few drops of an essential oil such as lavender, mint or jasmine for a refreshing scent.

Step 1: Pour the warm water and sea salt into the spray bottle. Give it a generous shake until salt dissolves.
Step 2: Combine the melted coconut oil and hair gel (or leave-in conditioner) into a separate bowl, then add the mixture to your spray bottle.
Step 3: Add a few drops of an essential oil. Shake the bottle again, and voila! You’ve got homemade sea salt spray. Apply to towel-dried hair.

While we all know water is the best way to stay hydrated, sometimes we’d like a little “spice” to enhance the experience. Why not create a healthy drink that not only nourishes but also hydrates the body as well. Try our favorite “Carrot Lemonade” recipe, sure to satisfy in all ways possible.

1 pound carrots, peeled and cut into chucks
2 cups water
3 cups pineapple juice and/or unsweetened white grape juice
3/4 cup lemon juice
Cold water
Lemon wedges
In a medium saucepan combine carrots and water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 30 minutes or until very tender. Cool slightly; transfer mixture to a blender. Add 1 cup of the pineapple juice. Cover and blend until smooth.
Transfer to a pitcher or plastic beverage container. Stir in remaining pineapple juice and lemon juice. Cover and chill 2 to 24 hours. (Mixture may thicken upon standing; stir in 1 to 2 cups water to desired consistency.)
Serve over ice with lemon wedges.

Packed with vitamin A and C, this is a great summertime drink to have on hand. Make a double batch and store in the refrigerator up to 1 week.

And finally, don’t neglect your feet. They are on display this time of year, but it’s hard to keep them looking their best when the weather’s warm: Exposure to the sun and hot surfaces like sand and concrete can leave your poor dogs dry and rough. Here’s how to protect them from the elements so they stay picture-perfect for the entire season:

(1) Exfoliate At Least Once A Week
“This will help you get rid of surface dry skin cells, making them look and feel smoother,” says Kristen Murphy, Spa Manager at the Woodmark Hotel’s Still Spa. Plus, your moisturizer will be more effective when you slough off flaky skin first. We like Opi’s fresh Cucumber Scrub or go with the salt and sand foot remedy by Plum Island Soap Company.

(2) Keep a Pumice Stone in Your Shower
Celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi, founder of the JINsoon Nail Lacquer line and Jin Soon Hand & Foot Spas in New York City, grew up in a small village in South Korea where foot-care products weren’t available. “We would go to the river and find a textured stone, and we would scrub our callouses and feet with the stone,” she says. “This really worked.” Of course, you don’t have to search for your own stone since commercially available pumice stones are available. Try the all natural Volcanic Lava Pumice Stone perfect for scrubbing away dead cells.

(3) Do Some Heavy-Duty Moisturizing
Your heels are prone to over-use—and as a result, they tend to dry out more easily than the rest of your foot, says Choi. The heel is also protected by thicker skin, which means that it’s less penetrable and it’ll take a little more effort to lock moisture in. Apply a lotion or oil immediately after you shower to retain the moisture your feet have already soaked up. For even better results, reapply a moisturizer right before bed. We like the all natural Elon Herbal Foot Cream or Burt’s Bees sweet smelling Peppermint Lotion.

(4) Don’t Forget to Apply Sunscreen
Lots of people neglect to apply a good SPF to their feet, but don’t make this big mistake. Not only does the skin on your tootsies need protection, but nails are made of protein and are therefore as vulnerable as your skin. Try our natural sunscreen suggestion of extra virgin coconut oil and layer Suntegrity’s Natural Mineral Lotion for extra protection against the harsh rays.

(5) Eat Foot-Friendly Foods
Believe it or not, some foods can cause your feet to swell and become bloated. Foods high in salt are the most likely culprits. To keep your feet looking great, avoid packaged foods, which are heavily salted. Sugars can also cause foot puffiness, so you’ll want to minimize your intake of that too.

(6) Let Toes Breathe
Since nails are a living part of your anatomy, they need a break to “breathe” from time to time so they can continue healthy growth patterns and rid themselves of chemical residue, says Choi, who recommends a break from nail polish about once a month for a few days to a week. We recommend using Essie’s natural nail polish remover to cleanse the darkest of nail polishes without stripping the nail of nutrients.

And remember no matter what,
Be You, Be fabulous, and always Be Feminine.

This week, the fashion world exploded with the Duchess of Cambridge’s slightly “daring” off the shoulder tailored look at the Museum of Natural History’s benefit in London. Flattering on all body types by accentuating the décolletage, you too can “class” up this silhouette. Take a tip from Kate and incorporate Summer’s favorite “off shoulder” style into your fashion wardrobe this Season.

Created by designer Barbara Casasola for her Spring 2016 collection, the pinstripe cream colored dress is the perfect cross between classy yet cool. The Duchess dressed things up with dainty dangle earrings and strappy heels, but you could easily pair this look with  sandals for lunch with the girls, or your favorite comfy sneakers for the perfect “Athleisure” look.

At the workplace, keep your off the shoulder dress sophisticated by accessorizing with skinny cotton pants and classic oxfords for all day comfort and style.

On another day, create a different outfit with your skinnies by pairing with a lightweight cotton lace off the shoulder top for perfect polish.

Great for work or play, streamline your look with all neutrals. Go with a cream colored knit top paired with wide leg “culottes,” making a fashion comeback this year.

Other neutral cropped pant styles we like:
“Rylie” Taupe Jogger Pants
“Margaux” Metallic Floral Capri Pants
“Crepe” Black Satin Cropped Pants

Don’t limit your style to just black and white. Jazz things up with a pretty floral print off the shoulder blouse paired with your favorite skinny jeans, if appropriate. On other occasions, you can accessorize your top with a chic midi skirt or wide leg trousers for perfect sophistication.

Substitute your pants with a classy chic A line skirt for a fun, flirty look. Go all black in an off shoulder lace tunic and matching skirt, or switch things up in a “black and white” style with a white jacquard knit A line.

Another chic off the shoulder style that can be adapted to both work and “classy” events is Summer’s favorite romper.  Feel light and airy this Summer in a breezy white lace shorts set accessorized with nude colored sandals and handbag. Or, go with a  classic basic black style paired with minimal gold jewelry and a colorful handbag. Keep your look sophisticated by keeping hemlines longer for extra coverage, combining with classic handbags, jewelry, and shoes, and styling hair in a chic topknot, sleek pony, or loose curls carefully shaped in place.

Feeling a little daring? Go with a pretty printed cotton romper combined with solid colored accessorizes to streamline your look. From florals to Aztec to animal print, you’ll feel confident and polished in a whimsical print romper this Season.

Other printed romper options to try:
“Essie” Coral Printed Off the Shoulder Romper
“Summer” Ivory Printed Strapless Shorts Set

Extend the romper look to full length pants in a trendy printed jumpsuit, perfect for any Summer occasion.

Straight off the Spring 2016 runways, try a printed strapless jumpsuit for pure class and style. Whether on your way to the office or out and about for the day, you are sure to turn heads.

Our Favorite Printed Jumpsuit Styles:
“Cierra” Printed Jersey Jumpsuit
“Denna” Crepe de Chine Pantsuit

Feeling a bit whimsical? Forgo the solids and try a silky floral patterned cold shoulder top. Paired with skinny denim pants, a mini skirt, or trousers, you’ll be the talk of the town everywhere you go.

Our favorite patterned “cold shoulder” finds:
“Agne” Printed Cold Shoulder Tunic
“Ariana” Black Printed Blouse

Lastly, many brides today still choose to embrace the traditions of old and opt for a classic church wedding and reception. In direct contrast to the Beach, Ranch, or wedding, be sure to understand the proper dress codes and formalities that come with this type of wedding.

Classic church weddings are a bit more formal than other weddings. Some even require “Black Tie” only. Be sure to consider this while choosing your best wedding outfit. With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start planning your favorite fun activities to do with your significant other. We all know life can get busy and sometimes relationships unintentionally take a back seat to daily duties. The best way to keep the romance alive is to find interests that delight you both and make weekly plans together on the calendar. Connecting with your love doesn’t necessarily have to cost a lot of extra time or money– it is the meaning and thought behind them that counts. Creating small moments and memories are often the things we remember most. We’ve gathered a few fun activities to get you started. Take a look below, get creative, and start planning the perfect romantic summer for two.

Kick start your day by simply sharing your favorite coffee beverage together each morning.  Whether brewing your own “cuppa joe” at home or driving to your local coffee shop, this is a great way to connect with each other before the day begins. On weekends or your next day off, slip into comfy lace and plan your own “B & B” getaway with breakfast in bed. Check out Rachael Ray’s “Breakfast in Bed” recipes and start planning your next morning together with a little “R & R.”

With the nice weather ahead, nourish your spirit in nature AND do a little exercise to benefit the body as well. To avoid any bickering, pick an activity that you BOTH enjoy doing whether it be riding bikes in the park, jogging down the street, golfing on the greens, hiking up the mountain, or swimming at the beach. And why not look stylish for your honey at the same time in a chic pair of printed shorts and sunshine yellow top. Best of all,  nature and exercise are rewarding yet free of charge.

Why dine inside when summer’s sunsets offer the most romantic of backdrops? Step right into your own romantic “Hollywood” film set with a lovely picnic in the park for two. Pop open a bottle of champagne, enjoy a basket of goodies, spread out a lace crochet throw, and bask together in the glow of twilight.

Look lovely for your love in a simple yet romantic lace dress and a favorite pair of sandals, tousling your natural hair with a little Bumble and Bumble surf spray for carefree “beachy” waves.

Speaking of the outdoors, another favorite summertime activity to plan together is a weekend “couples campout.” Whether for overnight or an entire week, pack your favorite “boyfriend jeans” and hiking boots, and enjoy getting “lost” in the woods. Spend quality time walking the forest trails, swimming the refreshing lakes, roasting marshmallows over an open fire, and drifting to sleep to the sound of the wind through the trees. You are sure to create moments you will never forget.

One of the best ways to feel connected while taking the stress off daily living is a “couples massage therapy.” Check a listing of your local spa and massage centers or book a private session from the comfort of your own home. For a true getaway experience, book a luxury resort hotel for a night that offers couples’ massages and spa services. Afterwards, order room service and enjoy a private candlelit dinner for two in his and hers organic spa robes.

Don’t take yourselves too seriously. Create laughs and re-live your carefree childhood days with fun at your local country fair or city’s amusement park. Don your favorite summer dress, pack on the sunscreen, and stroll the Boardwalk of carnival games with your sweetheart. Enjoy ice cream and hand spun cotton candy, ride the roller coaster, laugh in the fun house, and end the day with a romantic kiss atop the ferris wheel. Bring a little innocence back into your relationship the Summer.Carnival_IMG_4048

Throw on your favorite “LBD” (little black dress) and hit the town together in style. Nothing is quite as romantic as a walk hand in hand down the street to your favorite movie theater. Feel the giddy excitement of first love again as your hands graze sharing popcorn for two and you snuggle down into your seats as the lights dim.

Throwback to a time gone by and go to an old fashioned drive-in movie. Pack up your favorite snacks, toss in some cozy blankets, don your favorite comfy jogger pants and tank, and get ready for a romantic evening under the stars. Check your local listings for the closest drive-in near you and create a night to remember.

No need to spend a lot of cash. Create the perfect movie night at home on your own couch, TV, and plenty of “movie theater” snacks. A favorite “movie date idea” with extra cuddling incorporated is a “scary movie date” complete with your comfiest tee, homemade popcorn, a little red wine, “death by chocolate” cupcakes, and a cozy “scary movie snuggle blanket.” No problem with a little romance tonight.

Finally, wherever your day takes you, don’t forget to end the day together. Whether you take a walk on the beach, meet for a late dinner, or watch the sunset, spend the last few hours of the day side by side. Relate the details of your day, tell a funny story, share your thoughts, listen to each others’ dreams for the future, and most of all, enjoy each other.

Whether dining at the finest restaurant in town, camping out in nature, or enjoying a movie night at home, you can create the perfect “date night” this Summer. Fancy or simple, outside or inside, extravagant or cheap, the goal is to create personal memories to last a lifetime. We here at Posh at Play know you are brave enough to create your own Summer to remember. And remember no matter what, be confident, be fabulous, and always be feminine.

“April showers bring May flowers.” While the saying may or may not be true, there’s no doubt that floral prints of all kinds are “blooming” this Spring. From Zuhair Murad to Ralph & Russo to Dolce & Gabbana, the runways were full of flora and fauna of all shapes, sizes, and designs. Whether big and beautiful or minute and abstract, the motif is just feminine enough, playful without taking itself too seriously.  The key to styling your favorite floral frock is to avoid over accessorizing and opting instead for a restrained approach. Take a look at our top picks trending for Spring 2016.

Start off your Monday morning with a breath of fresh florals for the office. The trick is to go with a sleek silhouette paired with shoes and accessories for all day comfort and style. We like Hale Bob’s sleeveless floral sheath dress combined with Sam Edelman’s lace up heels and simple gold bangles from Kendra Scott. When it’s time for a meeting with the Boss, throw on  Hale Bob’s black Bolero jacket over your floral frock for a perfectly polished professional look. As lunchtime approaches, pull out the homemade mini cupcakes decorated with lavender wild rose royal icing flowers from Confectionary House  and you are sure to start your co-workers’ week off right. Bring a little Springtime fun to the workplace this Season.

Tap into your inner “hippy” this Season  with a flowy Boho floral maxi. Relax in style with Hale Bob’s floral printed maxi dress, Free People’s floppy hat, gladiators from Steve Madden, suede fringe tote from Patricia Nash, and chic hand chain from Lana Jewelry. De-stress this Season by creating your own personal space outside. Throw down a colorful floral rug from Loloi, add a string of lights, table, cozy chair or hammock and take a minute to enjoy the calmness of the outdoors. Consider even starting your own flower garden for luscious scents throughout the year. Check out the Gardener’s Supply Company for tips on how to grow the most perfect roses, America’s most popular flower. On weekends, add a few chairs and invite your best friends over for a garden party with cocktails and munchies. Whether alone or in good company, take the time to enjoy nature this Spring.

You can’t go wrong in a classic vintage A line floral dress this Spring. Grab Eliza J’s floral print fit and flare dress paired with cute white kitten heels from Bella Vita and a vintage floral clutch from designer tu-anh. Even if you don’t have time to grow your own posies this Spring, you can still enjoy the Season’s fresh flowers by shopping your local Farmer’s Market or flower shop. Here in L.A., we enjoy the family owned and operated Athletic Club Flower Shop delivering flowers to customers since 1916. Search your area for the best place to buy flowers and add a little brightness to your Spring this year.

Whether vacationing in Cabo or simply tending the garden in your own backyard,  the very versatile floral shirtdress is one you’ll want to add into your wardrobe collection this Spring. We like Hale Bob’s “Cabana” cotton dress paired with trendy flat gladiator sandals NEW from Lucky Brand and color blocked straw tote from Straw Studios. Another styling tip is to fashion your shirtdress over a favorite pair of summer shorts or cropped pants such as Hudson’s cropped denim jeans. You can also bring your shirtdress along with you to pool or beach topped over one of Hale Bob’s colorful printed swimsuits. Lastly, don’t forget tie a comfy cotton plaid shirt around your waist when you need to layer as the sun sets. Casual or dressy, home or abroad, let your shirtdress work for you this Season.

Not sure what to wear to your next wedding event or formal Spring occasion? We suggest a lovely sheer ivory flutter floral dress paired with black sandals from Calvin Klein and matching crossbody bag by Rebecca Minkoff. Protect your peeps with stylish “Palm Beach” sunglasses from Illesteva to complete the ensemble. For a different silhouette, we also like the faux wrap neutral silk chiffon from Hale Bob accessorized with “flower” inspired Betsey Johnson glitter “rose” bangle, Simone Rocha stud earrings, and crystal pendant from Nina. In the spirit of the Season, why not surprise the bride and groom with an arrangement of fresh flowers from your favorite flower shop.

Take a cue from designer Emanuel Ungaro’s Spring 2016 collection with a flirty floral cocktail dress perfect for drinks with co-workers or date night out on the town. Glam it up this Spring in Hale Bob’s sequined embroidered cocktail dress paired with Betsey Johnson’s dainty flower detailed stilettos and kitsch “flower pot” crossbody. Or sparkle like a Hollywood star in a snug gold sequined floral dress accessorized with Vince Camuto’s embellished ankle strap sandals and 3D flower jeweled gold clutch. Spritz on a little romantic “Tea Rose” perfume and you’ll look and smell fresh as a Spring day.

Finally, no Spring or Summer season can be complete without a tropical floral print tank dress. Whether or not you vacation in the tropics this year, you can still get in on the fun with your own flora and fauna “Cabana” style. We like Hale Bob’s blue sleeveless tropical print summer dress paired with your favorite flat sandals and floral headpiece from Free People. Segue into the evening hours by switching out your casual flats for Vince Camuto’s white ankle strap heels as pictured above or opt for Sam Edelman’s fun floral print sandals and you are ready to shimmy the night away. Even if your year doesn’t include a trip to a getaway desert island, you’ll feel “tropical” in your very own floral print sleeveless dress while making yourself a homemade coconut cocktail from Cooky Coconut’s fresh delicious recipes.

From the workplace to destination getaway to date night, there’s a flirty floral dress to fit any occasion this Spring. Whether you choose a delicate feminine print or glamorous sequined pattern, florals are a “must do” this Season. Have fun, be you, and bring a little “flower power” style into your daily routine this Season. Don’t miss a single issue and

Last week, L.A. based fashion blogger Natalie Kramer gave you favorite West Coast Girl styling tips. This week, take some Preppy and Polished tips from the East Coast influenced by tradition as much as practical concerns.

Since weather patterns can be unpredictable, with sun one minute and rain the next, East Coasters are used to fashionably styling a light cardigan or sweater year round. The East Coast is the home of Ivy League schools and academia in the North and manners and charm in the South. This influences the region’s style and fashion with the popularity of pearls, polos, plaids, and sweaters. Take a look at our 6 tips on how to dress East Coast style.

East Coasters know that the best way to add a bit of class to any style is to simply add a string of pearls. From work to play, any outfit can be enhanced with this simple embellishment. Whether you choose to don a charming A Line Dress or classic oxford shirt and blazer, pearls are a more than acceptable accessory day or night. So grab those heirloom strands of your grandmothers or splurge with Majorica’s Three-Strand Pearl Necklace as a way of initiation.

Every East Coast girl knows that rain wear is not merely a necessity, it is a fashion statement all its own. From rain jackets to umbrellas to boots, an East Coast girl knows how to rock these items in style. Start your fashionable rain wear collection with a trendy pair of weatherproof boots. For a perfect Spring style, we like Hunters Original Tall Gloss Rain Boots paired with Vineyard Vines Cashmere Linen Tunic Sweater and skinny jeans from Hudson. Add a little novelty to your look with jewelry pieces in the Cape Cod Collection from East Wind Silver Co.

For East Coasters, nautical pieces are tied in from north to south inspired by sailing whether for pleasure or toil due to the convenience of the Great Lakes and the length of the coastline. Since the weather along the East Coast tends to be chillier and not as mild as the West Coast, our “beach wear” often includes a light sweater, cardigan, floppy hat or scarf. Start with Citizen’s of Humanity’s white cropped shorts paired with a striped tee from Paige Denim, your string of pearls, and classic boat shoes from Sperry. Be inspired by Spring’s runway looks from Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren, and start shopping your favorite nautical items. Don’t forget the perfect nautical jewelry, we love the anchor inspired bracelets by Kiel James Patrick.

On the East Coast, the popular “preppy” style derives mostly from the universities. The polos, plaids, and sweaters have evolved into a very chic yet proper style perfect for anyone to try this Spring. Let your hair go natural, and pair Washed Dayboat Classic Shorts  with a Short Sleeve Polo Shirt and Lacoste Slip On Sneakers. Accessorize your look by tying a plaid button up around your waist in case the weather turns chilly. On dressier occasions, combine your polo and pearls with a White A line Mini Skirt from Hale Bob or a Candy Pink Striped Midi Skirt from Chic Wash.  Who says that you have to be a college student to enjoy one of the East Coast’s favorite fashion statements?

In contrast, on the lower regions of the East Coast, Southern charm omits the plaids opting for lovely and light shades boasting floral and sea faring prints yet the proper look is still maintained with clean cuts, A line skirts, and the like. And since it’s Spring, now is the perfect time to “be playful in preppy prints.” Look for light pastels, floral prints, flutter sleeves, and midi-length skirts. Lilly Pulitzer has got it down to a science with their eye pleasing shades, one of a kind prints and oh so Southern Charm. We’re particularly fond of the Shellabrate print this year that easily pairs with your lightweight cardigans and Georgica Jelly Sandals.

You can even carry the playful prints to the workplace with Hale Bob’s Beaded Blue Silk Blouse and Wide Leg Linen Trousers. Slide into a pair of Metallic Gold Wedges from Lilly and your sure to bring a refreshing outlook to the office. From dresses to skirts to shorts, be sure to include the East Coast’s favorite playful prints into your closet this Spring.

Finally, our favorite “style” that every girl should choose not just for Springtime but throughout the entire year is monograming. East Coasters from North Carolina down are obsessed with monograming everything, making it their own. From jackets to handbags to jewelry to even iPhone cases. Putting your initials on your favorite styling items shows ownership and commitment to the things you love best. The East Coast is characterized by individualism and hard work, but with class, character, and charm. We love the classic East Coast look pictured above with your very own personalized with a Merino Wool V-Neck Sweater paired over a Polka Dot Blouse, and Cropped Denim Jeans. If you choose to try only one East Coast style this Season, pick your favorite item to monogram and take ownership of your fashion. Whether you choose to own your most loved handbag, hat or  hoodie Southern Charm Embroidery is the place to go to put your stamp on it.

From our list above, there is sure to be an East Coast style that suits you this Season. Maybe you’ll decide to add a string of pearls on your next evening out. Or you may tie a cardigan around your outfit for lunch out with the girls. Or why not monogram your favorite fashion accessory or wardrobe essential, exuding style, class, and individuality.

Now that you have read both last week and this week’s blogs on West Coast vs East Coast fashion truths, we’d love to hear YOUR opinion on which style you think fits you best. Will you follow your region’s trends and styles, or will you choose to “go against the grain” and try something new and different? Let us hear from YOU and comment below. And remember, no matter what we here at Posh at Play want you to be you, be fabulous, and always be feminine.
