This week one of our fashion bloggers is set loose on the streets of New York City to discover and report the latest trends in Fall fashion street wear. What is the common girl on the street wearing to business, lunch, and evening? And how do New Yorkers incorporate fashion into their busy, non stop lifestyles? Let’s discover what’s trending and find out ways you can implement into your Seasonal wardrobe and your lifestyle needs this year.

PRACTICAL COATS WITHOUT THE YAWN

2c39059e04f46cfb3c438399d0628083

In preparation for the trip, I ended up packing only one bomber leather jacket. However, I should have followed the chic coat option all of New York is wearing this Season. In the city that never sleeps, women know that an all purpose, durable coat is the way to go for Fall. Lighter than fur or wool, the camel trench coat is one of this Season’s favorite jacket options, suitable paired over your work suit and later with a chic midi dress and over the knee suede boots.

Be FURocious

d4ab52f944a748c5c61312db60769bd7

Being from L.A., I had wondered if “fur” is a taboo touchy clothing piece for Fall so ended up leaving my faux fur vest and real fur jacket at home. That’s not the case here in NYC. Cozy fur vests and coats are all the rage paired over anything from business suits to a day out in Central Park, faux of course for the protection of animals.

And Don’t Forget The Brights

You hear the myth that all New Yorkers only wear black and dark colors, so as to not stand out too much as a tourist, I opted to pack and wear neutral colors only. Boy was I wrong. New York women know how to stand in color, but with a more sophisticated approach. They pair one brightly lit statement piece and accessorize with solid colors and minimal jewelry. Try your black slacks with a bright outer piece to stand out like an “Oh So Chic” New Yorker.

ALL WHITE IS STILL OK

67b14b4c9c0a4044366d16f8bfe550a1

Throw out the “no white” after Labor Day rule, and make your own rules like the New York women do. I tend to always push my white and ivory clothes to the back of the closet for Fall and Winter, but the New York women know that rules were made to be broken. They steer clear of silk and chiffon pieces, in favor of heavier fabrics like wool. I am actually on the look out for a white leather jacket for Fall here in the Fashion District.

Seen outside Carnegie Hall, I liked how she dressed up for the night in a tailored dress and crisp heels for a busy night out on the town.

Some Of Our Favorite White Pieces
Ivory Tailored Bolero Jacket
Catrinah Lace Dress
Laszio Sequin Cocktail Dress
Silk Charmeuse Dress
Joe Ultra Suede Leggings
Bruna Embossed Faux Fur Jacket

SILKY SLIP DRESS

I’ve always been a bit leery of wearing a barely there silk slip dress during the Fall. But New Yorkers are pairing the slinky silhouette this Season with hardier fare, from tees underneath, to moto jackets, to long trenches. Combine with your favorite ankle boots for downtown shopping style and switch to strappy heels as you head to a Broadway show. Check out this flowy one I found at Bloomingdale’s in the heart of the city.

Need a little romance in your afternoon? Try a glitter knit slip dress paired with a chunky oversized cardigan for a chic and comfortable New York errand running girl. No time for a trip home? Pull slinky heels from your tote and meet friends at Hudson Clearwater hidden restaurant.

Check out the Brooklyn Museum  in a sophisticated black & white slip dress and leather jacket then dine at Saul for a NY evening to remember.

ANKLE LOVING BOOTS

casual-ankle-boots-ny-style

And speaking of ankle boots, they are my “go to” shoes roaming the streets of NYC. As I expected, the streets are covered with every single boot style imaginable, from combat, to suede, to rocker style, to patent leather. My ankle boots were perfect to pair with my leggings all day and with my jumpsuit at night for the ballet. If you only get one shoe this Fall, get the versatile ankle boot.

LONG VESTS AND SKINNIES MESH

cozy-chic-vest-and-skinnies-ny-style

What a great styling option, suitable for women from young to old. Skinnies are easy to pack and slim the leg on everyone. I brought a variety of these adaptable pants to switch out with different shirt options. How does New York style their skinnies? With an oversized chunky sweater and ankle boots or heels for a night on the town. I just had to head to Macy’s on 34th to grab me a pair of NYC’s favorite.
casual-vs-work-vest-and-skinnies-ny-style
The vest and skinny work easily for the office or a chill fall NY day. Pair your black lace skinnies with a long sleeve knit top and oversized vest for office days or shimmy into your favorite jeans and satin top and stroll Manhattan for a totally you afternoon.

LAYERED LIKE A LOCAL

office-layers-ny-style

Since I only took 1 carryon, I had to think about layers while in NYC. How do they keep so warm, especially on brisk windy Fall days? I spotted jeans paired with a plaid long sleeveinfinity scarf, and a chic wool blazer; an A line skirt with long sleeve sweater tucked in; and I myself wore leggings, tight sweater, and warm vest that kept me comfy all night long.
on-the-go-layers-ny-style

On the go? Shimmy into a pair of leggings, pullover an oversized sweater and slip into to some concrete loving kicks for a busy New York Minute.

jean-layers-ny-style
No matter how you choose to layer, the ONE item all New Yorkers never go without is a long warm scarf. From Central Park to Broadway to Greenwich, these girls know how to style a scarf. Layer a long draping sweater over a knit top and infinity scarf with your favorite jeans tucked into some serious leather combat boots for a NY City walk about.
So whether you’re in The City to see the sites, taste to food, listen to the music or everything in between. Be sure to dress like a local, but always remember to
Be YOU, Be Fashionable, and ALWAYS Be Feminine.

STYLE EDITORS TIPS & TRICKS FROM NY FALL FASHION WEEK 2016

milan-street-style-day-5-141

Whether you are attending the sartorial circus that is fashion month, are watching from a distance, or just want to look put together to welcome the new season, chances are you are in the market for some outfit inspiration. You’ve come to the right place. Take a few tips that we’ve chosen from NY fashion editors ensembles during fashion week this year and be inspired by the Fall runway looks.

(1) The Bright Bag Effect : Take The Yawn Out Of Neutrals

bright-yellow-bag

Whether clutch, crossbody, or satchel, it’s time to put a little color into your Fall wardrobe this Season. Instantly spruce up Fall’s neutral and darker colors with a pop of color. In a morning rush, fashion editors know that they can turn a simple outfit into an eye catching look simply by grabbing a brightly hued handbag.

From Hugo Boss to Alexander Wang to Rag & Bone, bright colors are all across the runway for Fall 2016. Jazz up a simple jeans and tee outfit with your brightly lit handbag accessory and shine in style this Season.

(2) Monochromatic Palette: One Color, Multiple Tones, Different Textures Equals A Slimming Polished Look

01d41819aad2d591a0733a819671a3bd

On the other side of the spectrum, fashion editors go with a monochromatic ensemble consisting of various shades and textures to create a slimming and polished effect. Look for items in the same color scheme for a slimming effect against the mixture of different materials from leather to lace to cotton to suede.

Spice up the romance in a “girly” pale pink monochromatic look this Fall. Mix and match Pantone’s 2016 Rose Quartz “color of the year” with a variety of patterns and textures.

Check out our favorite pink Fall wear options:
“Cameo” Pink Suede Shift Dress
“Marty” Kimono Jacket
“Emely” Pink Draped Satin Blouse

Camel, beige, and nude also gains attention this year. Mix things up by combining with a white or ivory color combo and intricate patterned accessories for an updated style.

Our favorite neutral monochromatic items for Fall:
“Lacy Sunday” Beige Textured Lace Blouse
“Cabana” Beaded Tie Dye Jersey Shirt
“Pascalla” Ultra Suede Ponte Leggings

A chic black and grey monochromatic ensemble creates a bit of drama for the Fall season with a nice mixture of textures from denim to leather to silk. Go from a grey tee by day to a silky sheer black by night.

(3)The Right Jacket Elevates Any Ensemble

blazers-and-jeans-oufits-2

Take your outfits from casual to edgy this Season. While the September weather fluctuates back and forth, fashion editors know a good coat or jacket is handy to have. When the weather is warmer, drape the coat over your shoulders for a cute “cape” look. As the breeze picks up, wear your coat normally to stay warm.

For the office, pair your coat over comfy pants and a classic pair of heels.

9d293f63ced05ec3b3f8a2aaf9e1a8fd

A basic “go to” tee and jeans outfit can go the next level by pairing with this Season’s chic blazer for a casual yet polished look. Will you go with a classic solid or try this Fall’s trending “text tees?”

Pair your jacket with our favorite classic skinny pant choices:
“Rogue Waves” Skinny Denim Jeans
“Bonded” Black Lace Skinny Pants
“Thompson” Mid Rise Skinny Jeans

motorcycle-jacket-with-dress

Don’t forget a moto jacket to keep you polished and styled with an edgy effect for Fall. Your leather jacket can be combined with not only your casual outfits by day but also your nighttime dresses by night.

(4) The Classic Button Down – Polished But Not Too Prim

buttondown-half

Whether tucked into classic skinny jeans, tied at the waist, or belted, fashion designers know you can’t go wrong with a traditional crisp button down top. Go with classic white or neutral or get into this Season’s style with a chic patterned print. Take a cue from fashion and celebrity icon Kim Kardashian with a half tucked in look. Why? It shows off your waist without looking too prim.

frat-tuck

Or go with the “frat tuck” for business in the front but a party in the back. Insert your button down at the waistline, pull slightly for a loose effect, and let the tail trail behind.

(5) The Jean Roll

How to show off your favorite Fall heels and booties this Season? The”jean roll”
is your perfect solution while adding a polished look to the boyfriend jean.

Whether you take your favorite straight leg jeans and roll the cuffs yourself or grab a pair of cropped boyfriends, be sure to include this style into your wardrobe. If you are feeling extra ambitious, you can combine your favorite heels with a pair of ankle socks for a super trendy fashion designer street style.

8cd2dedf93a3d7a58a7fd1e41427e9d0

And don’t forget, you can also wear your rolled jeans style paired with heels and a blazer for a business meeting and trade out your blazer for a sheer lacy top for a fun night out on the town. Allow your co-workers to see your relaxed side while still looking professional.

Check out our favorite rolled jean denim styles:
Hudson’s “The Leigh in City Kid” Cropped Denim Jeans
Citizen’s of Humanity’s “Dani” Capri Denim
Joe’s Jeans Rolled Cropped Jeans

(6)The Scarf Effect – Artfully Tied Can Make You Stand Out or Be A Stand In For Accessories

e0e3ffcd705c5773dfbf07598a2b2bff

And finally, our favorite accessory for Fall that can add a bit of pizzaz to any outfit from casual to dressy is the colorful printed scarf. Tie your favorite scarf in a knot around your neck paired with your favorite jacket, wide leg pants, or sheath dress.

img_9618
Another Fall trend we’ve been seeing street style in NYC is using your favorite printed scarf as a chic bangle bracelet. Fold the scarf in sections, wrap, and tie in a knot for an instant jewelry piece.

You can also use your scarf as a chic belt option, cinched around your favorite boyfriend jeans or tied across the waistline of a dress for dressier occasions.

51bed51486f4bb84b509f0bc6e6b6bbc

Bad hair day? Have no fear. Cover up a messy do or bed head with a colorful printed scarf headband. Not just reserved for “Boho” this Season, you can rock this look in style from work to play. Simply fold scarf in sections and tie around head, securing with a few bobby pins and you are good to go

892ec95afbcce4fac2c947ed6c14cf44

Don’t settle for less. Go ahead and elevate your Fall fashion this Season. Stealing secrets from this year’s top fashion designers, which look will you try? Whether you go for a standard button down, cropped boyfriend jeans, or colorful scarf, let your fashion do the talking. Make this Season’s trends fit YOUR style and let the real YOU shine through.

We here at Posh at Play encourage you this Season to
“Be YOU, Be Fabulous, and always Be Feminine.”

FASHION TRUTHS FROM AN EAST COAST GIRL

Lilly-Pulitzer-Spring-21

Last week, L.A. based fashion blogger Natalie Kramer gave you favorite West Coast Girl styling tips. This week, take some Preppy and Polished tips from the East Coast influenced by tradition as much as practical concerns.

Since weather patterns can be unpredictable, with sun one minute and rain the next, East Coasters are used to fashionably styling a light cardigan or sweater year round. The East Coast is the home of Ivy League schools and academia in the North and manners and charm in the South. This influences the region’s style and fashion with the popularity of pearls, polos, plaids, and sweaters. Take a look at our 6 tips on how to dress East Coast style.

pearls2

CLASSY GIRLS WEAR PEARLS

East Coasters know that the best way to add a bit of class to any style is to simply add a string of pearls. From work to play, any outfit can be enhanced with this simple embellishment. Whether you choose to don a charming A Line Dress or classic oxford shirt and blazer, pearls are a more than acceptable accessory day or night. So grab those heirloom strands of your grandmothers or splurge with Majorica’s Three-Strand Pearl Necklace as a way of initiation.

rainboots4

RAIN BOOTS ARE A FASHION STATEMENT

Every East Coast girl knows that rain wear is not merely a necessity, it is a fashion statement all its own. From rain jackets to umbrellas to boots, an East Coast girl knows how to rock these items in style. Start your fashionable rain wear collection with a trendy pair of weatherproof boots. For a perfect Spring style, we like Hunters Original Tall Gloss Rain Boots paired with Vineyard Vines Cashmere Linen Tunic Sweater and skinny jeans from Hudson. Add a little novelty to your look with jewelry pieces in the Cape Cod Collection from East Wind Silver Co.

nautical2

GET NAUTICAL

For East Coasters, nautical pieces are tied in from north to south inspired by sailing whether for pleasure or toil due to the convenience of the Great Lakes and the length of the coastline. Since the weather along the East Coast tends to be chillier and not as mild as the West Coast, our “beach wear” often includes a light sweater, cardigan, floppy hat or scarf. Start with Citizen’s of Humanity’s white cropped shorts paired with a striped tee from Paige Denim, your string of pearls, and classic boat shoes from Sperry. Be inspired by Spring’s runway looks from Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren, and start shopping your favorite nautical items. Don’t forget the perfect nautical jewelry, we love the anchor inspired bracelets by Kiel James Patrick.

GO POLISHED IN POLOS & PLAID

On the East Coast, the popular “preppy” style derives mostly from the universities. The polos, plaids, and sweaters have evolved into a very chic yet proper style perfect for anyone to try this Spring. Let your hair go natural, and pair Washed Dayboat Classic Shorts  with a Short Sleeve Polo Shirt and Lacoste Slip On Sneakers. Accessorize your look by tying a plaid button up around your waist in case the weather turns chilly. On dressier occasions, combine your polo and pearls with a White A line Mini Skirt from Hale Bob or a Candy Pink Striped Midi Skirt from Chic Wash.  Who says that you have to be a college student to enjoy one of the East Coast’s favorite fashion statements?

lilly-dress

BE PLAYFUL IN PREPPY PRINTS

In contrast, on the lower regions of the East Coast, Southern charm omits the plaids opting for lovely and light shades boasting floral and sea faring prints yet the proper look is still maintained with clean cuts, A line skirts, and the like. And since it’s Spring, now is the perfect time to “be playful in preppy prints.” Look for light pastels, floral prints, flutter sleeves, and midi-length skirts. Lilly Pulitzer has got it down to a science with their eye pleasing shades, one of a kind prints and oh so Southern Charm. We’re particularly fond of the Shellabrate print this year that easily pairs with your lightweight cardigans and Georgica Jelly Sandals.

You can even carry the playful prints to the workplace with Hale Bob’s Beaded Blue Silk Blouse and Wide Leg Linen Trousers. Slide into a pair of Metallic Gold Wedges from Lilly and your sure to bring a refreshing outlook to the office. From dresses to skirts to shorts, be sure to include the East Coast’s favorite playful prints into your closet this Spring.

monogram3

MONOGRAMS ARE A MUST

Finally, our favorite “style” that every girl should choose not just for Springtime but throughout the entire year is monograming. East Coasters from North Carolina down are obsessed with monograming everything, making it their own. From jackets to handbags to jewelry to even iPhone cases. Putting your initials on your favorite styling items shows ownership and commitment to the things you love best. The East Coast is characterized by individualism and hard work, but with class, character, and charm. We love the classic East Coast look pictured above with your very own personalized with a Merino Wool V-Neck Sweater paired over a Polka Dot Blouse, and Cropped Denim Jeans. If you choose to try only one East Coast style this Season, pick your favorite item to monogram and take ownership of your fashion. Whether you choose to own your most loved handbag, hat or  hoodie Southern Charm Embroidery is the place to go to put your stamp on it.

east-coast

From our list above, there is sure to be an East Coast style that suits you this Season. Maybe you’ll decide to add a string of pearls on your next evening out. Or you may tie a cardigan around your outfit for lunch out with the girls. Or why not monogram your favorite fashion accessory or wardrobe essential, exuding style, class, and individuality.

Now that you have read both last week and this week’s blogs on West Coast vs East Coast fashion truths, we’d love to hear YOUR opinion on which style you think fits you best. Will you follow your region’s trends and styles, or will you choose to “go against the grain” and try something new and different? Let us hear from YOU and comment below. And remember, no matter what we here at Posh at Play want you to be you, be fabulous, and always be feminine.

WEAR SPRING NOW!

bohemian-marie-claire2If you’re tired of the same old jeans and jacket outfit, don’t worry! You can start wearing your favorite Spring trends NOW. From Michael Kors to Naeem Khan to Gucci, flowy “Boho” is back in a big way this Season with flouncy floral print dresses, cropped wide leg pants, off-the-shoulder peasant tops, gladiator sandals, and floppy hats. Other trends include cropped tops, leggings, military jackets, peplum, and crochet shawls. We’ll show you how you can start to incorporate a little bit of Spring into your wardrobe now. Chilly or warm, workday or playtime, enjoy your favorite trends today.

FLORAL DRESS AND MILITARY JACKET

No need to wait to bring out your favorite floral Springtime dress this year. Even if the weather proves too cold for your sheerest of dresses, there are many tips to stay warm against the elements without cramping your style. We like Hale Bob’s ruffled silk chiffon sundress contrasted with this Season’s trendy utilitarian military jacket, and accessorized with bright caged heels from Donald J Pliner and a neutral oversized handbag from Vince Camuto. Or start showing off your “beach body” curves with Hale Bob’s snug pink floral sheath dress paired with Jill Sander suede ankle booties when the weather is chilly and metallic triple strap sandals NEW from VANELi for warmer Spring days. Your military style jacket also looks great on your way to the office over the sleeveless jacquard floral dress from Hale Bob. From home to work to party time, go ahead and bring your flowery Springtime dress out to play.

144ba8f60771bee106df18fff1e09f1a

FLOUNCY FLUTTER DRESS AND CROPPED JACKET

Our second favorite dress and jacket combo is the fluttery flounce dress and cropped jacket look. Even if this year’s Easter proves rainy or cold, don’t let that stop you from wearing your favorite Springtime style. We like Hale Bob’s satin floral print silk sundress paired with the black Bolero jacket and black ultra suede leggings in case the weather is extra chilly. If the day becomes warmer, simply remove the leggings and swap out your heels for slip on wedge sandals from Jimmy Choo. You could also accessorize your look with a classic leather jacket as pictured above for a “rockin'” Spring style. Go neutral with Trouve’s classic black, Halogen’s pale pink cropped, or spice things up in Rag & Bone’s bright red. Whichever jacket style you choose, you’ll definitely be able to wear your flouncy Spring dress sooner rather than later this Season.

deb63fdd777290a5b1d36e56164b4113

MAXI DRESS AND SWEATER

Don’t leave your favorite maxi dress out of the mix either. With “Boho” trending now more than ever, it’s time to let your hair down and start feeling Summer’s carefree days to come. Start with Liberty Garden’s ivory embroidered strapless maxi and top with a simple ivory gauze button down also from Liberty Garden and flat gladiator sandals from Rebecca Minkoff. On chilly days, stay warmer in Hale Bob’s ivory cropped jacket or Liberty Garden’s terry knit lace. If you’d rather go with some color, shop Posh at Play’s wide selection of Hale Bob print maxi dresses from colorful coral to bright green to rosy red. Perfect the “Boho” style by accessorizing your look with Free People’s straw wide brim hat, hobo bag from Elliot Lucca, and fringe sandals from Diane von Furstenberg. On Spring’s colder days, swap out the sandals for fringe booties from Sam Edelman, and layer with suede leggings from Hale Bob. Warm or cold, either way, you can start wearing Spring’s favorite “Boho”trend now.

main.original.640x0c

TURTLENECK LAYERING

Another favorite way we love to style the maxi dress for now is by layering a sleek turtleneck underneath. The key to pulling off this look is to be sure that the material of your top is super thin with no embellishments to prevent your silhouette from looking too bunchy or bulky. If needed, you can also add a cropped coat or leather jacket over your outfit for added warmth. Turn heads this Season in Hale Bob’s teal printed silk maxi paired with the black knit long sleeve turtleneck, buckled ankle booties from Free People, and shoulder strap purse from Zac Posen. You can also use the turtleneck to pair under other trending Springtime fashions like Hale Bob’s silk floral blouse, the off the shoulder velvet top, or Liberty Garden’s black sheer lace chiffon. This versatile turtleneck can even be topped with rompers like Liberty Garden’s lace trimmed twill shorts set or any of the tank dress selections from Hale Bob and Liberty Garden. Don’t let cold weather dampen your Spring style. Simply grab a turtleneck to keep you warm underneath your favorite Spring trends.

IMG_2377

CAMI AND SEQUINED CARDIGAN

Give your favorite snug winter sweater a Springtime update by pairing with a loose gauzy cami and lightweight skinny jeans or leggings. As the weather warms, you can tie the sweater around your waist for instant style. Grab Hale Bob’s grey sequin cardigan and top with AC Collection’s silver metallic skinny jeans and a rose quartz colored silk and lace tank, Pantone’s color of the year. We also like Hale Bob’s ivory silk tank with flounce or the mixed media flyaway cami from Liberty Garden accessorized with Hale Bob’s cool silver cargo leggings and glam round sunglasses from Tory Burch as seen across the runways this Season. Look ahead to warmer weather and start wearing your favorite flouncy tanks and camis now.

SHORTS AND LEGGINGS

And lastly, what says “Summer” more than your favorite pair of shorts? Though the last of winter’s weather may leave your legs too chilly to wear alone, we’ll show you how you can still wear your favorite Seasonal style right now. Start with a pair of basic blue denim shorts and layer snug knit or suede leggings underneath, accessorizing with a cropped coat, oversized sweater, or wool scarf depending on how cold your climate is. We like Citizen’s of Humanity’s “distressed” denim shorts with Hale Bob’s matching ultra suede leggings , silk washed cami from Equipment, and Liberty Garden’s lace Kimono for a clean, streamlined look. Usher in Spring’s florals in flower print denim shorts from Joe’s Jeans paired over Hale Bob’s gray ultra suede leggings, cozy gray knit sweater from Shabby & Chic, and ankle booties from BP. If shorts are not quite your style, you might find Citizen’s of Humanity’s loose fit long denim shorts a more comfortable option, or if you are looking to take a few inches off your waistline, get AC Collection’s vintage high waisted denim. Whichever silhouette suits you best, you can start wearing your favorite Summer staple now.

IMG_8392

There’s no need to wait to wear all your favorite Spring and Summer trends. Go ahead and shop your favorite looks and use our layering tips to keep warm until the weather changes. If your city is still chilly, layer your outfit with your favorite winter jacket or overcoat and warm leggings or skinny jeans. If you happen to live in a warmer climate, forgo the leggings and skinny jeans and layer with lightweight fabrics to segue into cooler evening hours. Enjoy Spring today!

Layer Hale Bob’s black rabbit fur vest over Liberty Garden’s ivory ultra suede long sleeve shirt, Hale Bob’s black mixed media leggings, waterproof booties, and cashmere stocking cap from Dolce & Gabbana. On evening dinners at the lodge, pair your vest with Liberty Garden’s long sleeve ivory mixed media sheath dress and black leather knee high boots from Ralph Lauren. WINTER OVERCOAT

Don’t forget to include your favorite snug overcoat amongst your packing for skiing this Season. We love this year’s trending winter white, a slightly ivory cream color to complement the winter season. Go with Helene Berman’s shaped wool blend coat paired with Liberty Garden’s gray draping sweatshirtHudson’s “Nico” mid rise skinny jeans in black, and stylish waterproof “mixed media” boots from Santana Canada. Or, spread holiday cheer in a red wool sweater coat with rabbit trim from Hale Bob and forest green shirt waterproof boots from Bernando Footwear.

As nighttime falls, and the evening winter festivities begin, shimmer and shine in your favorite sequined cocktail dress. Angel-Zanna-Roberts-Rassi-at-Ralph-Lauren-New-York-fashion-week-under-storm

“Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful”….. winter weather is upon. As many of us pack our bags and travel to see our loved ones this Season, it’s time to start thinking about winter weather fashion options. There is a way to stay stylish yet warm throughout whatever Mother Nature may throw our way this time of year. Rain, snow, sleet or shine, we’ve got you covered with our favorite cozy winter fashion finds. Grab your hot cocoa and cuddle up next to the fire as you peruse our favorites and start planning your holiday look this Season.

CLASSIC BOUCLE COAT

Rain, snow, sleet or shine, one of our favorite “go to” jackets to fit any winter weather situation is the classic boucle coat. Popularized by the French designer Coco Chanel decades ago, the look is still on trend today. The word “Boucle” actually refers to material made from boucle yarn, looping several colors together to create an endless variety of designs and patterns. The great thing about this jacket is that it is easily adaptable for work or play, dress or casual. Try Guess’s powder pink double breasted Boucle coat paired with Hale Bob’s black stretch A line skirt and black satin blouse with lace for everyday work wear to the office. Segue into the evening hours and party the night away by combining your Boucle coat with a chic cocktail dress from Hale Bob. Choose from a wide selection to fit and flatter every figure and fashion taste found at our convenient online store Posh at Play.

Your Boucle coat can go triple duty by pairing with your favorite jeans and sweater for everyday comfort and style. Try this year’s favorite cropped jean silhouette with Citizen’s of Humanity’s Dani dark wash skinny cropped jeans or go for flare in the Dylan wide leg cropped pant. Layer your look with Liberty Garden’s ivory ultra suede sweatshirt or stay snug in the fur trimmed sweatshirt and cable knit sweater. However you choose to style, you’ll definitely want to add the versatile Boucle coat to your wardrobe collection this Winter.

COZY FUR VEST

Our second favorite chilly weather option is the fur vest. Easy to layer over a blouse or sweater by itself on warmer days or underneath a wool coat on cold winter days, be sure to add the fur vest to your closet this Season. Get a similar look as pictured above with Hale Bob’s black rabbit fur vest paired with Hudson’s Nico mid rise super skinny jeans or try the Signature skinny jeans if you prefer black. Accessorize with Dooney & Bourke’s classic oversized leather tote,  Betsey Johnson’s heart pendant, and waterproof leather booties from Aquatalia, perfect for rainy or snowy Winter weather. If you’re feeling festive this Holiday Season, go with Hale Bob’s red rabbit fur vest instead. You are sure to spread some Christmas cheer in style.

Your fur vest can also carry you from the ski slopes to the office place. Rather than lug a heavy coat with you, top your fleece lined black leggings from Zella and cozy wool sweater from Free People with your fur vest and you ready to ski the day away. Impress your Boss and turn heads at the office by combining your favorite long sleeved shift dress with Hale Bob’s fur vest, black opaque striped tights from Elie Tahari, knee high suede boots from William Rast, and a crocodile embossed tote from Badgley Mischka. The fur vest is definitely a fashionable warm winter option to have with you this Season.

THE PONCHO

With “Boho” still all the rage, it is no surprise that the poncho is one of this Season’s trendiest winter coat options. Updated for 2015, look for ponchos made with unusual materials such as lace from Free People and different patterns such as striped from Ralph Lauren. Or stay simple in Liberty Garden’s black faux suede trimmed lace poncho easily paired with your favorite jeans and boots for everyday wear or thrown over your favorite cocktail dress at your next holiday party.

410d4b512a3f6483b43c8377c1a3d89d

Get in on one of this Season’s top trends with the “poncho dress.” From Valentino to Chloe, designers are pushing the limits of how to style the classic poncho and are giving it a chic, updated look. We like Free People’s soft Toltec poncho dress or BB Dakota’s black burnout velvet dress for casual occasions. If you’ve been extra good this year, Santa might just spoil you with an elegant Valentino black flutter poncho dress, perfect for your dressier occasions. Or, you can simply grab your favorite knee length poncho and wear it solo on your next dinner date or holiday party.

496265e2bb7f8e721e3eebdea674cad7LOTS OF LAYERS

For extremely frigid climates, layering is the key to staying warm against the seasonal elements. Layering also works in warmer winter weather when the daytime is hot but nighttime brings in the chilly air. In cold temperatures, start with your favorite button down blouse like Hale Bob’s black velvet floral top paired with a gray lace pencil skirt with half slip. Layer with a gray wool sweater from Eileen Fisher, gray cable knit scarf from Phillip Lim, wool blend peacoat from Michael Kors, and knee high leather boots from designer Antonio Melani. For a different look, combine your layers over Hale Bob’s grey ultra suede leggings or AC Collection’s grey stretch skinny jeans. In warmer climates, forgo the heavy peacoat, and simply layer a blouse and sweater combo over your favorite pair of pants, accessorizing with a cozy scarf for nighttime chills. To keep from feeling like “Frosty the Snowman,” make sure you start with thinner fabrics underneath, and end with your heaviest fabric on top.

LOOKING GOOD IN GALOSHES

Lastly, one of our favorite winter weather items that you can incorporate into your fashion wardrobe this holiday Season is the waterproof rain boot. From Tory Burch’s “equestrian” style to Hunter’s wedge to Santana Canada’s fur trimmed, tried and true galoshes get a facelift this Season with updated looks and unique styles. The girls will never know you are wearing waterproof rain shoes when you pair your Tory Burch boots with a red plaid shirt from Current/Elliot, black A line skirt from Hale Bob, and holiday red flare overcoat from Via Spiga on your next coffee date.

c0666f4a94446fe8c483e093fb66ef86

For another wintery weather look, stay dry yet stylish in cute knee high plaid rain shoes from Burberry or go mid-size as featured above in “Cara” plaid lace up boots from Chooka. Pair with Hale Bob’s  black ultra suede leggings ,neutral fur trimmed cable knit sweaterand add your favorite plaid button down for extra warmth on chillier days. Don’t be afraid to incorporate galoshes into your wardrobe this Season. With this year’s updated looks, you’ll stay dry yet sleek in the newest rain boot styles.

Rain, snow, sleet, or shine…..how will you fashion your winter wear this Season? Whether you choose to include new trendy items like the fur vest and poncho, or rely on updated versions of the tried and true Boucle coat and rainy day galoshes, there are smart ways you can stay warm yet fabulous throughout the holiday season. KEEPING IT CLASSY

If you’re the kind of girl who prefers demure hemlines and classic style, you can never go wrong in a knee length A line skirt, brightened up with a holiday red silk blouse and jacket. We like Vince Camuto’s A Line pleated black skirt, and the red silk blouse with necktie from Hale Bob , accessorized with a black fur coat and matching black “flex” heels from Michael Kors to keep you comfortable all night long. Jazz things up a bit in Hale Bob’s black lace pencil skirt  paired with your red silk blouse and cropped black bolero jacket, finishing with delicate diamond drop earrings from Lafonn for a touch of holiday sparkle. PLAYING WITH THE BOYS

Channel your inner “Marlene Dietrich” with a one piece jumpsuit for sleek yet feminine style. Your outfit will show that you can keep up with the men without forgoing your womanly side as well. We like Hale Bob’s sleeveless black lace jumpsuit, or go for a bit of “Hollywood” holiday glam in a sleeveless black one piece with sequin front. Adhereing to your “menswear” style, sweep your hair into a sleek low bun and accessorize with an oversized blazer from Paige Denim, patent pointy toe Oxfords from Paul Green, and an industrialized box clutch from Whiting & Davis. If you prefer a more feminine look, go with Hale Bob’s ivory faux fur coat, matching ivory Brocade kitten heels from Simple Soles, and tiny pearl earrings from Mikimoto. Whichever way you choose to style your one piece pantsuit, be sure to include this look in your office party planning this Season.

VINTAGE CHIC

Nothing attracts looks more than a hint of a simple more refined classic time period in fashion. As Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” plays in the background, transform your style to a differernt era with a throwback to 1950’s glamour. The easiest way to achieve this vintage look is with an “A line” fitted dress, a trending silhouette at the time. With a fitted waist and a flare skirt, this shape works best to accentuate a tiny middle and toned legs, while hiding wider hips and thighs. Get the look with Hale Bob’s black stretch Ponte and lace A line dress paired with black tights and matching black heels for a streamlined style. Or “let it go” a la Elsa from Frozen in Hale Bob’s bright icicle blue A line dress and matching embellished blue heels from Menbur Sanco. From brights to neutrals to patterns, select your favorite vintage find from Hale Bob at our wide selection online, one to suit every taste and style.

NAUGHTY BUT NICE

There’s no shame in flaunting your fit physic at the annual holiday party. However, you do want to keep it posh yet professional in the office setting. Select your favorite holiday red mini dress and pair with black tights and matching black heels, revealing a little leg but not too much. Get a similar look as pictured above with Hale Bob’s long sleeve lace dress paired with matte opaque tights from Wolford and black suede heels from Dolce Vita.  For a different silhouette, we also like Hale Bob’s short sleeve soft jersey wrap dress paired with trendy Elie Tahari black tights with side stripe and black suede booties from Saint Laurent. A little flirt is fine as long as it’s done with good taste and style.

SAY YES TO SEQUINS

Don’t be afraid to glitter and glisten at the holiday party in a shimmering sequined dress. The key to not appearing too “overdone” is to pair your look with neutral accessories and natural hair and makeup. Reserve your flamboyant side for the upcoming New Year’s Eve festivities.  Get the above featured style with Hale Bob’s gold sleeveless sequined dress topped with Rebecca Minkoff’s long black silk blazer or again, go with Hale Bob’s cropped bolero jacket. You could also try one of this Season’s “winter white” trends in the ivory sequined cocktail dress from Hale Bob combined with an ivory Ponte stretch jacket and delicate ivory satin heels from Kate Spade. Let your hair fall loose and wavy in a slightly “tousled” manner aided by Bumble and Bumble’s surf infusion spritz spray and you are ready to rock this year’s office party in style.

PARTY ANIMAL

If you just can’t contain your excitement and are always the “life of the party,” there is a way to tame the animal within and still have a good time. The office party setting is not always the best place to “let loose,” however  there’s no need to feel uncomfortable with who you are. We suggest our favorite animal printed wrap dress from Hale Bob paired perfectly with Lafayette’s sleek tech jacket, black tights, and black leather Mary Jane’s from Shoes of Prey. You could even go a bit edgier with Vince’s  black paneled leather jacket and knee high boots from Steve Madden if you dare. Another chic way to reveal your inner “tiger” is to accessorize a favorite LBD with animal print items such as Michael Kors’ “cheetah” kitten heels or Cleobella’s leopard fringe clutch. Don’t be afraid to express yourself this holiday Season. Just be sure to do it with moderation and an “Oh So Chic” style.

300ece257debaae99b304462281fce9e

Classic or edgy. Vintage or trendy. There’s a holiday office party style that’s waiting for you this Season. Instead of wishing the event was already over, look forward to being able to express your individuality and personal style with the people you work with everyday. Let down your guard a little and let your true self shine through. Sincerity is always refreshing and your Boss is sure to take note. Your co-workers will see you in a whole different light and by being able to express yourself, you might actually enjoy going to work this year. Be you, be yourself, but always be feminine.

FASHION LIKES THE NUTCRACKER

lauren-lovette-nutcracker01

The lights. The costumes. The music. The magic. The Season would not be the same without Sugarplums dancing in our heads to the ever popular Nutcracker tunes. This week, we focus on the iconic Nutcracker ballet seen continuously on stage every year throughout the world since 1892. Though not all of us can be as graceful as a ballerina, this week we focus on fashion inspired by this beautiful holiday classic. Whether you go see “The Nutcracker” ballet at the theater or only dance to the music in your head, you’ll feel a part of this holiday tradition with our top picks based on the iconic characters from the story.

DENIM AND LACE

Lastly, as featured in Harper’s Bazaar magazine’s top party picks, we couldn’t agree more with unexpected dynamic lace paired with denim. We like this updated look with pencil skirt and lace up booties, perfect for the office party, dinner with the parents, or the annual holiday get together. Our top picks include Hale Bob’s supple satin and sultry black lace blouse or go with black stretch floral lace tunic paired with AC Collection’s faded denim pencil skirt and Alexandre Birman black lace up booties. plaid overcoat for Winter

PLAID IN PORTLAND

One of this Season’s trendiest styles, stay chic and colorful throughout Winter’s rainiest days in a knee length plaid coat. From Coach to Alexander Wang to Phillip Lam, the runways were filled with this year’s “go to” print pattern. We like Vince Camuto’s gray plaid trench coat with removable hood for those unpredictable weather days. Or go brighter with Madewell’s red plaid wool blend coat perfect for the holidays. Pair your favorite plaid coat with Citizen’s of Humanity’s “Ava” dark wash jeans, Liberty Garden’s black fur shoulder long sleeve top, and comfy ballerina flats and head to your favorite coffee shop in style.

long suede fringe coat in L.A.

SUEDE FRINGE IN L.A.

With the “Boho” look continuing into Fall and Winter, take a tip from the L.A. scene in a chic suede fringe coat. Go with this Season’s trendiest style in a long suede fringe duster as pictured above, or accessorize with a suede fringe vest or jacket. Look for the fringe suede duster at your local clothing shops since we found the item sold out across the most popular department and designer stores. You could go for a shorter version with Topshop’s cropped fringe suede jacket or shine bright in Mango’s fire engine red suede coat. Complete your “Boho” look with Goldsign’s dark wash wide leg jeans, black lace blouse from Hale Bob, and floppy wool hat from Calvin Klein.

COZY IN DENVER

From Rudsak to Joe Fresh to Moschino, designers are giving the utilitarian “parka” an update this Season. No longer reserved just for skiing,  bring your favorite snug snow jacket out to play with you this Winter. Shine bright through the year’s dreariest days in Columbia’s NEW cobalt blue “Turbodown” water resistant jacket paired with Hale Bob’s warm black ultra suede leggings and Liberty Garden’s cozy black long sleeve sweatshirt. As the sun sets, pair Hale Bob’s wrapped sequined cocktail dress with Steve Madden’s snow white fur collar quilted coat or go sophisticated in a sleek black insulated parka NEW from North Face perfect for a winter night out on the town.

denim jacket in Dallas

DENIM IN DALLAS

With the 90’s back in a big way for Fall, now’s the perfect time to bring out your favorite denim jacket. Cropped or long, belted or loose, casual or dressy, the denim jacket is a perfect wardrobe staple this Season. From Neiman Marcus, Dallas’ anchor store, we like Alexa Chung’s cropped denim paired with Liberty Garden’s black babydoll dress for true 90’s fashion. Go classic with Helmut Lang’s long sleeve denim jacket or update the look with Frame Denim’s button front jacket with waist tie. Don’t forget to carry your denim look to business and formal occasions as well. For the office, pair Paige Denim’s white collarless denim jacket with Hale Bob’s blush pink dress and on your next evening out, top Hale Bob’s lace trimmed satin shift dress with Anthropologie’s true black denim and Steve Madden’s black leather pointy toe pumps for a perfect Winter’s night.

floral patterned trench coat in Miami

FLORAL IN MIAMI

Even tropical spots can get chilly during the Winter months, and what better way to anticipate the coming of Spring than with a floral patterned trench coat. Don’t let the dreary weather get you down. Shine bright this Season in Hale Bob’s floral patterned teal Boucle coat easily adaptable for the office, lunch with the girls, or an evening out on the town. On warmer days, we love the floral print silk organza trench by designer Elenyun also doubling as a chic dress paired with Charles David’s peep toe booties or Steve Madden’s “Slithur” sandals for elegant occasions.

Southwestern pattern A line jacket

SWEATER COAT IN CLEVELAND

Lightweight and bulk-free, the sweater coat is great on warmer Winter days or as a layering option over your favorite blouse and sweater combo. Shop like the locals in Hale Bob’s red wool sweater coat paired with Hudson’s dark wash “Nico” skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff black leather “hobo” bag, and red suede ankle booties NEW from Geox. We also like Free People’s “bold Geo” print sweater coat or go with their floor length “duster” version. Perfect for the office as well, top your AC Collection pencil skirt and Hale Bob long sleeve polka dot silk blouse with Barney’s fuzzy black sweater coat for a classic modern look. Segue into cocktail hour by pairing your sweater coat with one of our many cocktail dresses, perfect for any holiday gathering or special occasion.

the robe coat for Winter

ROBE COAT IN NYC

Like any true New Yorker, stay fashionable without trying too hard in our final favorite outerwear trend this Season. The robe coat gives an essence of style yet remains “cool” by its draping and tie front. Try Hale Bob’s long neutral knit coat paired simply with your favorite black leggings, turtleneck top, and knee high boots. For a different look, go with Plenty by Tracy Reece’s gray floral robe coat paired with Hale Bob’s snug ivory ultra suede leggings on casual days and Hale Bob’s black beaded cocktail dress for dressier occasions.
