Have you ever wondered why when you see the color white an overwhelming feeling of calm and relaxation washes over you?  Research has proven that colors have a profound impact on how you feel.  It was thought a long time ago that white was the absence of color, but it’s actually the opposite.  Thanks to Sir Isaac Newton we have the correct info.  The color white is actually a combination of all the colors of the visible spectrum. White has come to symbolize peace, purity, innocence, honesty, cleanliness, fresh starts, perfection, modernism and sophistication.   It can give you a different feeling in the way that it’s used.  For example, if used with casual cotton clothing or on canvas furniture you would get a relaxed, casual feel but if used with a leather jacket or white tufted modern couches you would get a more contemporary modern feel. Anytime I walk into Pottery Barn and see a cushy oversized white couch, I just have an urge to lay down, prop up my feet, grab a good book and a blanket and relax.  Of course, I don’t do this, I’m pretty sure Pottery Barn won’t be too happy with me.  People that tend to be drawn to this color usually long for a simpler and more relaxing existence.  With today’s crazy fast paced world, I can see why white décor has become the latest trend.  Maybe it’s our way of slowing down, sitting back and smelling the roses.
