DREAMVILLE FESTIVAL

April 1- 2nd, 2023
Raleigh, North Carolina

Dreamville is one of North Americas top Hip-Hop and R&B Festivals. Started by Dreamville Records own J-Cole in 2018 it now draws in more than 80,000 Hip-Hop and R&B fans. Located in Raleigh, NC’ ‘s largest city park they offer parking as well as shuttles to the festival from downtown Raliegh. Headlining some of the industry’s top artists in 2023 including Usher, Drake, J-Cole himself as well as Gorilla and many other great names.

Dreamville does not offer camping but with it being located in the city of Raleigh there are many hotel options within close proximity to the festival. With this being one of the more popular festivals in the country, the tickets are starting at $299.99 per ticket.

WHAT TO WEAR: If this is your first time attending a Hip Hop and R&B Festival, you may be wondering what to wear? Some of the hottest trends right now at Hip Hop and R&B Fests are athleisure. COUNTRY THUNDER ARIZONA

April 13th- 16th, 2023
Florence, Arizona

Country Thunder Arizona is Arizona’s top country music festival for 2023. Don’t miss out on this chance to warm up in the desert and enjoy tons of awesome country music at The Canyon Moon Ranch located in Florence, Arizona. Including some of today’s hottest country music artists like Jon Pardi, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bently and Parker Mccollum.

Country Thunder Arizona has both camping and glamping available to enjoy the weekend fun without having to worry about driving in each day. The tickets to Country Thunder Arizona will run you anywhere from $297.00- $600.00 for the weekend.

WHAT TO WEAR: Country music is known for its American pride, and you will find that American pride all over in the popular attire that the country music fans sport at these festivals. Right now, some of the hottest trends that have stood the test of time for country music festivals are cut off jean shorts, with crop tops or an American Flag tee, some cute boots, and a cute hat to protect your face from the long days in the sun. COACHELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL

April 14th- 23rd, 2023
Indio, California

Get ready, because we are inching in on North Americas most well-known music festival. If you have not heard of Coachella yet now is the time to start looking into this festival. There is a good reason why Coachella is the quintessential destination for Instagram lovers. Not only does it feature some of the most well-known pop and electronic artists like Bad Bunny, Big World, Gorillaz, and Calvin Harris but it also has an awesome view no matter where you are. It’s hard to not gaze at the skyline of Indio, California and not be awe stricken by the palm trees and desert mountains that surround you, accented by the festival’s signature Ferris wheel and art installations. Not only that, but you are also sure to run into some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrity’s out enjoying the many stages of awesome artists.

Camping is available at Coachella, with many different options. You can tent camp, car camp or they do have a lodging option available as well for your weekend within the music vibes. Unfortunately, with popularity always comes a price. Coachella is coming in at the most expensive festival on our list with general admission tickets starting at $549.00 each.

WHAT TO WEAR: If your one of the lucky ones that gets to attend Coachella in 2023(please take lots of pics and share!!) then you are probably in the market for the perfect outfit for this year’s festival(you can also check out my last blog for festival wear tips). Think Mesh, Leather, Fringe and boho chic. You are also going to want to find the perfect hats and headwear. If there is one festival that you can really make a statement with your head piece, Coachella is the place to do it.

TORTUGA MUSIC FESTIVAL

April 14th- 16th, 2023
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Located in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida you can’t go wrong escaping some of that unpredictable spring weather at the Tortuga Festival. This year they are celebrating their 10th year of holding the festival with an outstanding lineup of top country and hip-hop artists. Featuring Eric Church, Wiz Khalifa, Niko Moon and up and coming country music star Ashley Cooke, this is a weekend you won’t want to miss. Not only is this music festival located in beautiful Florida, but it is also held for an awesome cause; to generate awareness and raise funds for ocean conservation.

With this festival being held on the beach in Fort Lauderdale there is no camping available, but you are right in town, so hotels are in abundance near the festival for lodging. Not only is this held at an awesome location but it’s also one of the more affordable festival options, with the 3-day general admission ticket coming in at $275.00.

WHAT TO WEAR: You guessed it, with the festivities being held on the sandy ocean front, clothes really do not need to be in abundance to fit right in with the hottest styles. Get yourself a couple bathing suit tops or a cute crop top, some cute shorts, a light sweater or jean jacket to tie around your waist for when it cools off, some sandals and most importantly do not forget your sunscreen!!!

TAMPA BAY BLUES FEST

April 14th- 16th, 2023
St. Petersburg, Florida

If you are looking for something a little more lowkey than the previous mentioned festivals, then the Tampa Bay Blues Fest is right up your alley. Located in Vinoy Park in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida the Tampa Bay Blues Fest is America’s finest waterfront blues festival. Featuring some of the greatest blue’s bands including Robert Cray, Tower of Power and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, this is the perfect excuse to escape to the beach for a relaxing weekend jamming out with new & old friends.

There is no camping available at this festival but tons of parking is available if you have to drive or they also offer free festival shuttles from hotels in the area. You won’t want to miss this fest, they will have awesome local food venders as well as full liquor bars, craft beer and wine. This festival comes in as the most affordable on the list with a 3-day general admission ticket costing you $175.00 each.

WHAT TO WEAR: If you are wondering what attire goes at a blues fest, just think free spirted and beachy vibes. With this being located near the beach the sunshine will be plentiful, so you will want a cute sun hat, something light and breezy like a bohemian romper or a swim coverup with a simple light underdress would be perfect. Some cute sandals, sunscreen and your lawn chair and you are ready for some sublime times listening to America’s greatest blues music.

No matter what type of music you are looking to enjoy or what your budget is this spring. There is something for everyone. So, dance off those winter blues and immerse yourself into some spectacular music this April.

5 MUST HAVE FASHION TRENDS FOR 2023’s FESTIVAL SEASON

Though for a lot of us this past week it has not felt like it, warm weather and sunshine are quickly approaching, and with the magical changing of seasons, comes the start of festival season. April, as rated by Ranker.com is one of the top 6 best times of the year due to this very reason.

What better way to kick off the changing of the seasons than with a music festival? This year has quite the monumental lineup of great festivals no matter the type of music that you are vibing with in today’s phase.

MADE IN THE SUEDE

I don’t know about you but I love suede; it is luxurious without being pretentious and is the perfect transition fabric from fall to winter or winter to spring because it provides a layer of extra warmth that many of the new manufactured textiles are lacking. The other great thing about suede is it doesn’t take the eye of a stylist to pull a look together you can pair it with almost anything for an instant pop of style. New Year’s only comes around once a year, so why not make the occasion memorable and join the celebration in one of these sparktacular cities.

New York City – Although New York may be too much for some people, there is no denying that it is one of the best parties in the world when it comes to New Year’s Eve. MASSAGE ENVY GIFT CARD:
One of the bests gifts I ever received was a massage. I had never done anything to pamper myself before and this was a novelty that I always considered outside my usual time and expense. However, once I did take advantage of this amazing gift, I was completely hooked. Thereafter, I made time and set aside the finance to make this special occasion part of my routine every few months. Each time I went in for pampering I felt more and more rested. An added perk is that I got to develop a friendship with my massage therapist.

STRESS LESS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” or so Andy Williams would have us believe in that much loved Christmas carol, at least it is supposed to be, so what simple things can we do to make sure the sentiments from this legendary Christmas song actually become our reality? I want to experience Christmas this year without all of the frantic stress and tension that so often come along with this holiday and rob me of the “spirit of the season” leave me feeling jaded instead of jolly. We assembled some tips for reducing stress that don’t require any unrealistic commitments of your time, which there already is not enough of, but rather can be incorporated into the to do list you already have attached to your schedule.

1. Take Time For A Simple Act Of Kindness

While you are rushing around finishing up last minute details, stop and open a door for someone,  bring back coffee for a co-worker or spouse, let someone who looks “really stressed” go ahead of you in line. These are simple things that studies show actually reduce your stress level.

2. Take In The Sights, Sounds and Smells Of The Season

Instead of stressing out over getting that last parking spot close to the door, intentionally park far away; use this as an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise, relish the invigoration of the crisp winter air as it touches your cheeks, listen to the enchanting sound of the salvation army santa’s bells or christmas music surrounding you, observe the beauty of the decorated lampposts and sparkling lights. Breathe in the smell of fresh pine trees as you pass by the Christmas tree lots. Being mindful of and enjoying your surroundings immediately lowers your blood pressure and reduces stress.

3. Wrap It Up

Make gift wrapping an event. Plan a movie excursion for hubby and kids, make yourself your favorite beverage; hot chocolate, tea, coffee with a little baileys maybe, put on your favorite holiday music, sit by the fire, have all of your wrapping tools out and organized and enjoy wrapping each gift with attention to detail. This time to focus on one task will put your mind at rest and the tension of the day will just melt away.

4. Take Note

Pick a handful of people who have had a special impact on your life this year and take a few minutes at the beginning or end of your day to actually write them a personal thank you note/Christmas Greeting expressing how they blessed your life in 2016. Expressing gratitude makes you feel mentally stronger and reduces frustration and irritability.

5. Establish New Traditions That Suit Your Lifestyle

Most of the stress we experience in our lives is tied into expectations we are striving to live up to. A belief that events SHOULD be executed in a certain way. Forget the should surrounding where you should go, what you should do, how you should celebrate, who you should get a gift for; lose the expectations you normally place on yourself and instead be open to establishing new traditions that fit into the lifestyle of you and your family.  This time of year is all about enjoying and sharing with the ones we love; instead of the full Christmas dinner perhaps a tapas style presentation of a few simple hot hor d’oueves & cocktails or soup and salad bar would be just as fun and give everyone a chance to mill around visit and enjoy one another instead of being relegated to an assigned seat at the table. Agree to just one gift per person, draw names. Decorate a tree outside in the yard with lights and ornaments instead of making a mess inside. Celebrate with different parts of the family different days or host an open house where people can drop by whenever they have time. Participate in a santa run for charity which will eliminate any arguments over whose house you have to visit at what time.

Remember to live in the moment. Don’t miss the magic of the season, embrace the additional to do’s and events it added to your schedule as a welcome change, step out of the mundane for awhile, find that spark of childhood wonder where the world is full of hope, excitement, and all things good.

 

THE ART OF DRESSING

DRESSING YOUR TURKEY AND YOURSELF FOR THANKSGIVING
There are two crucial components no Thanksgiving dinner can do without; a perfectly appointed turkey and you; the hostess with the mostess. But juggling all of the shopping, decorating, cooking and entertaining can leave you feeling frazzled rather then thankful, especially after having to referee uncle Bob and aunt Jenny who feel they need to boldly share their political views with everyone in attendance. Never fear, with a few simple tips we can help you pull this event off with grace and panache. You will be the master of all the madness.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: THE TURKEY

Before we can get our turkey dressed we have to get it cooked properly which can be stressful even if you are not a first time turkey preparer. Let’s take the stress out of this:
Tip 1 – Get your turkey the Monday before Thanksgiving, don’t wait, this will assure it has plenty of time to thaw properly if frozen.
Tip 2 – Once thawed or if using a fresh turkey let it set in the refrigerator uncovered for a couple of days before cooking. It sounds scary I know, but this will cause the juices to get pulled into the meat of the bird and dry the skin so it will become a beautiful picturesque brown just like all of those photos you see. Yes, it will look shriveled by the second day, DO NOT WORRY, after cooking it will look and taste fabulous.
Tip 3 – There must be at least 25 different ways to prepare a turkey, here are a couple of our favorites:
DRY-BRINED TURKEY
PERFECT ROAST TURKEY

Tip 4- We want the turkey as our centerpiece to look beautiful but just use what you already have; sprinkle around some hazelnuts, cranberries, clementine’s, a little greenery, even kale works, and you will have a work of art with very little expense and effort.

ADDRESSING THE DRESSING

I don’t know about you but for years I have wondered why some people call stuffing dressing. Thanks to this blog I actually took the time to do a little research and discovered that when your bread mixture actually is stuffed inside the turkey if is officially defined as stuffing, when it is prepared as a side dish separate from the turkey it is called dressing because you are using it to dress your plate. There you go, I feel smarter already. We can let our guests worry about “dressing their plates”, as a hostess our only responsibility is making sure the turkey is well dressed; both on the table if we plan to feature it as a centerpiece and then with our prepared side dish. No stuffing, thank you very much, it keeps the bird from cooking correctly, brings the risk of food borne illness and comes out goopy, yuck!

LOTS OF LOVELY LEGGINGS

Never since this years controversial debates between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton has there been such a hotly debated topic as whether or not leggings are pants. The parties on each side of this controversy are passionate about their position but we are hoping through this post we can prove to the naysayers that leggings are indeed worthy of being placed in the category of pants. What I ask you is more comfortable to wear then a pair of leggings? They allow the ease of movement of a dress or skirt without the risk of being exposed. They provide the coverage of a jean or pant without feeling binding and restrictive on the body. There are days when I have thrown on a pair of leggings and a sweater and actually forgotten I have anything on (perhaps that’s just me). If styled well they can be dressed up or down and worn for literally any occasion.

Leather leggings elevate any style. They can make an outfit look sophisticated or just a little edgy depending on your personal styling. Who doesn’t love suede? Suede always looks so rich, smooth and inviting like your favorite vanilla latte. It is almost impossible to resist reaching out and touching this fabric (albeit not always socially acceptable). To me suede equals luxury and it can be worn with everything from a t-shirt (instant chic) to a very tailored jacket with tall boots for the office but our favorite look is paired with a very romantic spun cotton and lace peasant blouse. CARGO PANT LEGGING

At first thought these leggings may seem a little counter intuitive to the main point of what a legging is supposed to be; simple, streamlined, smooth and they can be a little more challenging to wear if you have wider hips but if paired properly with a light over-sized shirt or fitted jacket they can make for a great addition to your legging collection. These might be the hardest leggings to pull off but they are soooo cute! You see them at the store, you can not resist the impulse buy and then you get home an wonder, now what? Where am I ever going to wear these? The key to pulling off the printed legging is making sure that the entire outfit does not get to busy. BAKE EVERYTHING PUMPKIN

Now is the time to bake everything pumpkin. From breads, to pies, to cookies, to candy, to coffee, pumpkin is IN. We love The Bitter Side Of Sweet’s pumpkin popcorn balls. They’re perfect for children and adults this season.

INGREDIENTS

6 cups popcorn
1 (8 oz.) bag pumpkin spice marshmallows
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup chopped pecans.

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large microwavable bowl. Melt marshmallows for 1 minute on high.
Stir. Then add in cinnamon and stir again.
Add in popcorn and stir.
Coat hands with cooking spray or butter and roll popcorn into balls.
Sprinkle with pecans and ENJOY!
