SPRING INTO FALL

 

It’s Fashion Week! For the next weeks through the first week of October, the fashion world is abuzz with all the newest, latest trends on the horizon for Spring 2015. Established designers push the limits of their known brands while new and emerging designers debut their new lines. It’s a “see” and “be seen” occasion starting in New York City and then spreading across the oceans to London, Milan and Paris, with other cities from Los Angeles to Chicago to Tokyo getting in on the bash. This week, I’ll show you the top styles seen on the runways across the Globe for Spring 2015, and how you can use the Spring trends for Fall and segue easily into Spring Fashion for 2015.

 

 BRIGHT YELLOW

From Carolina Herrera to Lacoste to Michael Kors, bright yellow is THE COLOR for Spring Fashion 2015. Though the color might seem a tad too bright for Fall, you can incorporate this trending color for Fall Fashion and easily carry the look into Spring 2015. Start with a bright yellow sundress such as kensie floral Lace dress from Macy’s.

For Fall, pair with Nine West tall boots from DSW or chic Steve Madden black strappy heels for a dressed up look, and top off with a faux fur coat from Donna Salyers or chic leather jacket.

For Spring 2015, use your same bright yellow sundress, and pair with chic sunglasses, a Topshop black floppy sunhat, and sandals for casual or Jimmy Choo black pumps for a summer night out.

 CROP TOPS

Seen all over the Runways this Season, the crop top is here to stay. From dressed up at the Alexander Wang show to casual at the Michael Kors show, the crop top is not just for the gym anymore. To keep the look classy and chic, designers this year pair the crop top with higher waisted pants, shirts, or shorts, covering the often troublesome lower “belly” area and showing off the trim upper waistline, for a much more flattering silhouette. So don’t be shy in trying the crop top look. Pair the look with flattering high waisted pants or skirts this Fall and Spring.

Though it may seem odd to wear florals for Fall, there are unique ways in which you can sneak this trend into your Fall wardrobe, giving a touch of Spring in Fall. For Fall, keep the trend subtle by pairing your favorite floral dress such as from Topshop, with an oversized sweater or jacket for style and warmth. Add chic DV by Dolce Vita tall suede boots, a Steve Madden fringe handbag, and gold bangles for a trendy “western” wear look, popular this Fall.

Transition into Spring 2015 with the same floral dress. Forgo the sweater and boots, and add a chic House of Fraser skinny studded belt, sunhat, and Kendall & Kylie wedges for a fun, floral look for Spring 2015. For Fall, keep things warm and cozy by pairing your black side slit maxi skirt with a C by Bloomingdale’s black cashmere sweater and ballerina flats or booties. Add your favorite black leather jacket for blustery days and cold nights. You can feel like you’re having a picnic every day of the week with designers’ new take on an old favorite. Though mostly known as a Spring/Summer pattern, gingham can easily be worn this Fall with designers displaying bolder graphic black-and-white gingham patterning, perfect for Fall and Spring.

For Fall, pair your favorite gingham button down shirt with Joe’s rolled cropped jeans, faux fur vest or your favorite cozy jacket, Michael Kors cream wool scarf, and comfy booties from DSW. Grab a Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte and cozy into perfect Fall fashion. Root for your favorite team this year in style, grab your favorite jersey shirt and pair with a skirt or pants. For another “sportswear” style, make your gym wear work overtime by doubling as street wear fashion. No need for a change of clothes this season. Start with a Topshop black half top as a fashion statement in the gym and on the street, suitable for both Fall and Spring.

For Fall, take a tip from top model Miranda Kerr, and pair your black cami with J Mendel black satin harem pants and a cream white blazer from H & M.  Accessorize with an oversize handbag and stylish black pumps for a trendy yet warm night on the town.

For Spring, pair your black cami with a Roksanda midi pencil skirt and Nicholas Kirkwood sandals or wedges. Accessorize with chic cat eye sunglasses by and a Mark Jacobs handbag and you are fashion ready straight out from the gym.

With the final Fashion Shows coming to a close on Thursday in New York, Spring Fashion 2015 moves across the globe landing in London next week. I cannot wait to see what appears on the runways in the following weeks to come, however, New York designers have given us many exciting fashion trends to try, from florals, to gingham, to sportswear. Though we have many months until Spring 2015, Spring Fashion does not have to wait. The trends can easily be adapted to Fall and Winter wear with a little creativity and ingenuity, which is what Fashion Week is all about- pushing the limits of fashion and finding new and creative ways to put a “look” together. Be your own fashion designer this Fall and “Spring Into Fall” fashion.

FALL HOME FASHION

 Crisp air. Cozy fires. Warm sweaters. Hot Cocoa. Spicy pumpkins. Falling leaves. The Fall season is in the air and it’s time to start feeling the season. Cooler temperatures call for warmer palettes and cozier fabrics. Take a hint from the Fall Fashion runway trends and start filling your home with the richness of the Fall Season. Try one of my suggestions this Fall and fill your home with warmth, coziness, and comfort.

Cable Knit isn’t just for sweaters this Fall. I’m loving the coziness of Soft Surroundings’ Cable Knit Boudoir pillows, as soft and touchable as your favorite Cable Knit sweater. For a quick and easy Fall centerpiece for your dining table, grab a chicken wire basket and fill with moss, grass, and leaves from your backyard, pumpkins and gourds from the market, and intersperse with tall and column candles from Yankee Candles in new Fall fragrances. Other creative organic ways to decorate for Fall this season:

Make a “Leaf Wreath.” Take a walk and gather Fall leaves, sticks, branches, acorns and pinecones. Using twine, string your sticks and branches together into a “wreath.” Taking your hot glue gun, glue leaves on the wreath and fill in open spots with acorns and pinecones.

Gather colorful Fall leaves and branches from your yard and place them in contrasting glass vases, mason jars, and containers.

 

Make “Pumpkin Luminarias.” Gather mini pumpkins, cut out 1-inch-wide circles, scoop out the centers with a tablespoon, and insert votive candles.

For a fun Fall entertaining idea for your guests, offer a “make-your-own” Candy Apple table. Start with hot, boiling fudge and caramel pots. Insert popsicle sticks into luscious organic apples, and let guests dip them into the fudge or caramel, and then sprinkle the toppings of their choice. Offer bowls of M&Ms, peanut butter chips, granola, white chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, raisins, butterscotch chips, cocoa crisps, Oreos, and fruity pebbles. Let guests place finished apples on waxpaper-lined trays to set and harden. Guests can enjoy or wrap in colorful plastic wrap for a take-home treat

 

Another fun Fall entertaining idea, buy organic Gala apples at the market and use them as serving “goblets” for your homemade apple cider. Cut off the tops, carve out the center leaving a 1-inch trim, and fill with hot, steaming cider, garnishing with a cinnamon stick for stirring. For the best Apple Cider recipe, try Spiced Apple Cider by A Beautiful Mess:

Needed: 4-5 cups Apple Juice,1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 3 ounces spiced rum (optional), cinnamon sticks

In a small pot heat the apple juice, spices and rum (if using) over low/medium heat. Stir often while the mixture is heating so the spices will blend into the juice (you don’t want any spice clumps). Once it’s hot pour into apple goblets and garnish with cinnamon sticks.

The appetizer tray never looked so festive. For your next Fall party or gathering, carve out the center of a medium-size pumpkin and fill with your favorite dipping sauce for your vegetable tray. For a sweet twist, fill pumpkin with Trader Joe’s cookie butter and serve with Honey Maid grahams, apple slices, bananas, doughnut holes, and honey wheat pretzels. Your guests will be delighted at your next Fall occasion.

For an easy Fall decorating idea, replace candles with mini pumpkins on your candlesticks and stands throughout the house. Support your local Farmers Markets and spend a weekend at the Pumpkin Patch gathering all sizes, colors, and shapes. Bring them home a scatter throughout the home for a perfectly festive Fall Season.

Another low maintenance but festive Fall decorating tip, gather pumpkins from your Pumpkin Patch trip and scatter across your front and back porch, layering and overlapping with no particular pattern, creating your very own “mini” Pumpkin Patch. Take one of the biggest pumpkins and etch your home address for your front porch. For nighttime shimmer, carve a couple of pumpkins and insert glowing candles (either Pottery Barn’s flickering flameless or  Pier 1 Imports’ unscented candles) for a glimmering Fall night.

Take a tip from Michael Kors, and personalize your home space this Fall by grouping family and friend pictures together with sleek silver photo frames. “Everybody has a story, and the most effective way to tell it is in a series of silver frames.” (Michael Kors) Shop silver photo frames at Shopstyle or visit your local Flea Market for vintage finds. Group photos on the mantel, entry table, coffee table, bedside table, or even the bathroom.

A fur throw, a roaring fire, and cashmere-covered walls are all Tommy Hilfiger needs to segue into the Fall Season at his Connecticut home. While we all may not be able to cover our walls in cashmere, shop for faux furs from Restoration Hardware and cashmere throws from Williams-Sonoma to add to living rooms and bedrooms for a cozy Fall feel.
