17c5499e083e4493244707f8fbcec01a

This week one of our fashion bloggers is set loose on the streets of New York City to discover and report the latest trends in Fall fashion street wear. What is the common girl on the street wearing to business, lunch, and evening? And how do New Yorkers incorporate fashion into their busy, non stop lifestyles? Let’s discover what’s trending and find out ways you can implement into your Seasonal wardrobe and your lifestyle needs this year.

PRACTICAL COATS WITHOUT THE YAWN

2c39059e04f46cfb3c438399d0628083

In preparation for the trip, I ended up packing only one bomber leather jacket. However, I should have followed the chic coat option all of New York is wearing this Season. In the city that never sleeps, women know that an all purpose, durable coat is the way to go for Fall. Lighter than fur or wool, the camel trench coat is one of this Season’s favorite jacket options, suitable paired over your work suit and later with a chic midi dress and over the knee suede boots.

Be FURocious

Being from L.A., I had wondered if “fur” is a taboo touchy clothing piece for Fall so ended up leaving my faux fur vest and real fur jacket at home. That’s not the case here in NYC. Cozy fur vests and coats are all the rage paired over anything from business suits to a day out in Central Park, faux of course for the protection of animals.

And Don’t Forget The Brights

You hear the myth that all New Yorkers only wear black and dark colors, so as to not stand out too much as a tourist, I opted to pack and wear neutral colors only. Boy was I wrong. New York women know how to stand in color, but with a more sophisticated approach. They pair one brightly lit statement piece and accessorize with solid colors and minimal jewelry. Try your black slacks with a bright outer piece to stand out like an “Oh So Chic” New Yorker.

ALL WHITE IS STILL OK

67b14b4c9c0a4044366d16f8bfe550a1

Throw out the “no white” after Labor Day rule, and make your own rules like the New York women do. I tend to always push my white and ivory clothes to the back of the closet for Fall and Winter, but the New York women know that rules were made to be broken. They steer clear of silk and chiffon pieces, in favor of heavier fabrics like wool. I am actually on the look out for a white leather jacket for Fall here in the Fashion District.

Seen outside Carnegie Hall, I liked how she dressed up for the night in a tailored dress and crisp heels for a busy night out on the town.

SILKY SLIP DRESS

I’ve always been a bit leery of wearing a barely there silk slip dress during the Fall. But New Yorkers are pairing the slinky silhouette this Season with hardier fare, from tees underneath, to moto jackets, to long trenches. Combine with your favorite ankle boots for downtown shopping style and switch to strappy heels as you head to a Broadway show. Check out this flowy one I found at Bloomingdale’s in the heart of the city.

Need a little romance in your afternoon? Try a glitter knit slip dress paired with a chunky oversized cardigan for a chic and comfortable New York errand running girl. No time for a trip home? Pull slinky heels from your tote and meet friends at Hudson Clearwater hidden restaurant.

Check out the Brooklyn Museum  in a sophisticated black & white slip dress and leather jacket then dine at Saul for a NY evening to remember.

ANKLE LOVING BOOTS

And speaking of ankle boots, they are my “go to” shoes roaming the streets of NYC. As I expected, the streets are covered with every single boot style imaginable, from combat, to suede, to rocker style, to patent leather. My ankle boots were perfect to pair with my leggings all day and with my jumpsuit at night for the ballet. If you only get one shoe this Fall, get the versatile ankle boot.

LONG VESTS AND SKINNIES MESH

cozy-chic-vest-and-skinnies-ny-style

What a great styling option, suitable for women from young to old. Skinnies are easy to pack and slim the leg on everyone. I brought a variety of these adaptable pants to switch out with different shirt options. How does New York style their skinnies? With an oversized chunky sweater and ankle boots or heels for a night on the town. I just had to head to Macy’s on 34th to grab me a pair of NYC’s favorite.

The vest and skinny work easily for the office or a chill fall NY day. Pair your black lace skinnies with a long sleeve knit top and oversized vest for office days or shimmy into your favorite jeans and satin top and stroll Manhattan for a totally you afternoon.

LAYERED LIKE A LOCAL

office-layers-ny-style

Since I only took 1 carryon, I had to think about layers while in NYC. How do they keep so warm, especially on brisk windy Fall days? I spotted jeans paired with a plaid long sleeveinfinity scarf, and a chic wool blazer; an A line skirt with long sleeve sweater tucked in; and I myself wore leggings, tight sweater, and warm vest that kept me comfy all night long.
on-the-go-layers-ny-style

On the go? Shimmy into a pair of leggings, pullover an oversized sweater and slip into to some concrete loving kicks for a busy New York Minute.

jean-layers-ny-style
No matter how you choose to layer, the ONE item all New Yorkers never go without is a long warm scarf. From Central Park to Broadway to Greenwich, these girls know how to style a scarf. Layer a long draping sweater over a knit top and infinity scarf with your favorite jeans tucked into some serious leather combat boots for a NY City walk about.
So whether you’re in The City to see the sites, taste to food, listen to the music or everything in between. Be sure to dress like a local, but always remember to
Be YOU, Be Fashionable, and ALWAYS Be Feminine.

WINTER FLORALS

Not just for Spring anymore, Winter is the perfect time to let the flowers come out and play. The key to fashioning florals for Winter is to look for darker prints and longer sleeves, or accessorize your dress with heavier coats, scarves, furs and boots. A SHORTS STORY

Even though Winter is upon us, don’t rule out your favorite pair of shorts at your next holiday party. As with florals, the key is to layer your pair of shorts with heavier knits, wools, and furs, and on extra cold days, a pair of wool tights. Get a similar “Winter White” look as pictured above with Liberty Garden’s NEW ivory lace skort paired with Hale Bob’s ivory lace sweater knit blouse classic ivory jacket from Shopbop, and a “Boho” floppy hat from Eugenia Kim. Or go with our other favorite “Mad for Plaid” look in a frosty blue plaid romper from Soft Joie layered with soft wool blend tights from Falke and trendy suede fringe booties from Sam Edelman. TANGERINE IS THE NEW RED

From Elie Saab to Alice + Olivia, designers this year brought us a new shade of red – bright tangerine. What better time than the holidays to try on one of this Season’s top trending colors. Stand out from among the rest at your next office party in a Phillip Lim sleeveless silk ruffle dress or go for a more tailored look in Black Halo’s tangerine shift dress. Off set the bright color with nude ankle strap sandals from Suart Weitzman and a bead and crystal clutch by Natasha Couture, or head to toe color with tangerine suede pumps from Gianvito Rossi and a matching leather clutch from Rag and Bone.

DENIM AND LACE

Lastly, as featured in Harper’s Bazaar magazine’s top party picks, we couldn’t agree more with unexpected dynamic lace paired with denim. Suitable and chic for any holiday gathering, what better way to spruce up durable denim this Season than with an elegant, vintage Victorian lace blouse. We like this updated look with pencil skirt and lace up booties, perfect for the office party, dinner with the parents, or the annual holiday get together. Our top picks include Hale Bob’s supple satin and sultry black lace blouse or go with black stretch floral lace tunic paired with AC Collection’s faded denim pencil skirt and Alexandre Birman black lace up booties. Change up your style at another holiday occasion with a trendy midi length denim skirt from Frame Denim or go with relaxed cropped denim pants from Citizen’s of Humanity. And you could always switch things up by topping Hale Bob’s ivory or grey lace midi skirt with a tie back denim top from Nicholas. However you choose to style, try the denim and lace combo this year.

plaid dress Fall 2015

MAD FOR PLAID

One of our favorite Fall styles that we’ve already added to our wardrobe is the plaid dress. From Tommy Hilfiger to Phillip Lim to Badgley Mischka, the runways were filled with plaid on shirt dresses, A-lines, flair skirts, and sheaths. This Season, there’s a plaid dress for every figure and any type of style. On errand day, go casual in Sam Edelman’s blue plaid shirtdress paired with your favorite sneakers or cinch with Ralph Lauren’s black stretch belt combined with a chunky ankle boot and chic cross body bag from Fossil for lunch with the girls. If you prefer a more feminine style, go with Sanctuary’s red plaid fit and flare dress paired with black and gold buckle heels from Ralph Lauren for perfect holiday style. Take the trend to the office in Felicity & Coco’s plaid crepe shift dress, black bolero blazer from Hale Bob, and black heels from Softwalk for all day comfort and style.

Plaid dress Fall 2015

Your plaid dress can also go double duty as an accessory tied around another of your favorite Fall dresses. For extra chilly days, use your plaid dress as another option other than a jacket to keep you warm against the elements. Whichever style you choose, be sure to add the plaid dress to your wardrobe collection this Season.

Sequined sparkle dress for Fall 2015

SPARKLE & SHINE

Now’s the time to pull out your favorite sparkle and shine in style. Not just reserved for dressier occasions, designers this Season have made your sequined dress suitable for work or play. With just the right accessories, you can shimmer morning, noon, and night. We love Hale Bob’s pewter cami sequined dress with V neck or go with the long sleeved wrap version paired with a cozy gray Ombre pullover sweater from Hale Bob and leather buckle booties from Calvin Klein for a chic everyday street style look. Carry your look into the cocktail hour by combining your sequined dress with Stuart Weitzman’s silver strappy heels and Pedro Garcia’s Swarovski Crystal studded clutch. Make your look suitable for work by topping with Hale Bob’s black Bolero jacket, warm black tights, and Nine West wedge heels.

Victorian styled black lace dress Fall 2015

VINTAGE VICTORIAN

Hail to the Queen. From Marc Jacobs to Gianni Pucci to Alberta Ferretti, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016’s runways were filled with an updated take on vintage Victorian fashion. To keep your throwback look fresh and new, look for lace inserts, shorter hemlines, sheer fabrics, and tight bodices. Try Hale Bob’s black embroidered mesh long sleeve lace dress or the long sleeve stretch dress paired with  vintage black lace up booties from Schutz and a faux fur wrap from Ted Baker to stay cozy and warm on chillier nights. For a night on the town or your upcoming Fall party, go with Hale Bob’s black stretch lace maxi dress, flattering for all body types. Accessorize to play up the “Victorian vibe” with a Mother-of- Pearl cameo necklace and a limited edition vintage floral clutch from the Victorian Trading Company.

one shoulder dress Fall 2015

COLD SHOULDER

Look ahead to one of Spring 2016’s hottest silhouette trends on the runway with the cold shoulder dress. While Summer was all about the strapless look, designers this Season are moving onto the one shoulder style. From J Mendel to Tome to Verses to Tanya Taylor, this Spring’s preview shows are all about letting that one shoulder shine. Start your holiday Season in style and wear the trend now with Hale Bob’s vintage bright pink Charmeuse one shoulder dress paired with your favorite heels and sparkle clutch. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, on your next evening out opt for the vintage one shoulder peplum dress from Hale Bob combined with Vince Camuto suede black booties and a black leather jacket from Trouve for a rockin good time. Mini or maxi. A line or sheath. Stay ahead of the trends and include the one shoulder dress into your holiday wardrobe collection.

flower patterned maxi dress Fall 2015

WINTER BLOOMS

Just because the weather is turning chilly and the flowers are fading doesn’t mean your fashion has to. On Fall’s gloomiest days, point to the coming Spring with a flowy floral printed dress. Look for darker colored floral patterns and accessorize with heavier fabrics like leather and suede to reflect the changing Seasons. We like Hale Bob’s pleated floral sheath dress paired with River Island’s peep toe ankle boots and a classic leather jacket from AG Jeans. On casual days, go with Hale Bob’s black and white floral shirt dress combined with wedges and Liberty Garden’s black Menswear sweatshirt tied loosely around your waist. Complete with Free People’s luxe leather cross body bag and you are ready to take on the day ahead.

powder pink maxi dress Fall 2015

PRETTY IN PASTELS

Another favorite trend to carry into the cooler Season is light colored pastels. No need to throw your powder pink or seaside blue to the back of the closet. With just the right accessories, you can continue wearing your favorite Summer hues throughout the Fall and Winter ahead. Try pairing your pastels with cool gray and ivory white for a warmer feel. For Lauren Conrad’s look as pictured above, try Liberty Garden’s pale pink maxi dress combined with gray suede booties from Michael Kors, a soft cropped jacket from Derek Lam, and a floppy “Boho” hat from Calvin Klein. Think pink at the office with Hale Bob’s blush suede sheath dress complete with the white washed silk jacket, ivory heels and matching briefcase from L.A.P.A. Segue into the cocktail hour by slipping into VC Signature’s dainty crystal embellished strappy heels and shaping the jacket for a chic faux fur stole from Eliza J.

LADY IN RED

Lastly, what would the holiday Season be without a classic red color dress.  From Zac Posen to Dolce & Gabbana to Valentino, Fall 2015’s fashion runway was sizzling with red from head to toe. On your most elegant evening affair, we love Hale Bob’s luscious ruby red silk gown paired with your favorite dancing heels and a glittering crystal clutch.
