It seems that everywhere you look these days the word Ponte keeps popping up, but if you are not a committed fashionista or in the garment industry it is very likely that this is word that you, like me, just skip over without giving it much thought. Big mistake. It turns out when a designer lists an item with the term Ponte they are trying to communicate some very important pieces of information to us about the wear, fit and durability of the fabric. Ponte has become so popular because it can overcome a lot of challenges for us ladies in the traditional problem areas; curious? Let me explain.
The word Ponte is derived from the phrase “Ponte Di Roma” which means “Roman Bridge.” It refers to the double knit design of this fabric which creates a mirror image so that the fabric looks the same on both sides. As a result of its double knit construction it resists wrinkles and creases, is very durable, it is soft and flexible while still holding its shape (it does not stretch out) and is firm enough to hold in and hide all of your extra baggage (if you get my drift). All in all it is the perfect fabric for fall and winter. Shop Posh at Play where we always have a great selection of women’s clothing.
